• NBA Owner Donald Sterling Clipped: What's Next?

    in Current Events

This week has arguably been one of the most influential in the NBA. Yesterday, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned Los Angles Clippers Owner Donald Sterling, potentially soon to be former owner, from the NBA for life and fined him $2.5 million, the maximum fine possible. Silver also said that he would be diligent in his efforts to force Sterling to sell the Clippers team by allowing the other league owners to take it to a vote.

The league requires a three-quarters majority to force an owner to sell.

All this because of a taped conversation TMZ released last week where Sterling is heard making racist comments to his girlfriend, Vanessa Stiviano, about the league, including specific comments about former player Magic Johnson and his association with Stiviano. Even though the decision has brought much needed closure for many players, especially the entire Clippers team, word on the street or in the sports world is that players are pressuring the league the finish the job, and fast.

The Tall Tales of NBA Owner Donald Sterling & the LA NAACP Branch -4/29 @ 11amET

    in Politics Progressive

Welcome to Independent Underground Radio LIVE - MICHIGAN'S TOP POLITICO PODCAST - Aired each Tuesday & Thursday @ 11am ET.

    On The Program:
-Los Angeles Clippers Owner Donald Sterling in recorded conversations with a Mixed Race Girlfriend revealed late on Friday, May 25 via TMZ.com racism is alive and well. Yet, Sterling's disgusting thoughts about minorities did not begin or end with the now famous tapes. Sterling had a well-document history of racial, housing and sex discrimination towards minorities. Should Sterling be forced to give up ownership of a team where over 75% of the players are African-American -- along with the entire league? Will discuss.

-The LA Branch of the NAACP has quite a pickle on their hands. Ironically, LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling was set to receive his third "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the historical civil rights organization in May. Is it time for the NAACP to check itself or should African-American shun the organization?

-Plus we'll discuss the latest in Politics & News!

SPORTS Chat live:Why is NFL superstar Chris carter so hypocritical

    in Baseball

When Ohio State football star Cris Carter left college to join the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles in 1987, future success seemed all but guaranteed. With a rare combination of size, athleticism, and skilled hands, Carter possessed the perfect package to play the wide receiver position at a high level, and no one was surprised when he soon emerged as one of the Eagles’ more reliable playmakers.

But unbeknownst to the public, things were far from rosy behind the scenes. The underground illegal drug culture in professional sports was vast and out of control in the 1980s, and, like many players during that era, Carter got caught up in that milieu and saw things quickly spiral out of control. Carter was drinking heavily and using cocaine, marijuana and ecstasy on a regular basis at that time, and he failed three drug tests over a three-year period before his coach, Buddy Ryan, finally gave up on him and released him in the summer of 1990.http://www.elementsbehavioralhealth.com/culture-media/cris-carter-from-addiction-to-superstardom-in-the-nfl/
