PawedCast Episode 32: Montreal Impact Review / USMNT vs. Mexico Preview

    in Soccer

The only thing better than a four-game winning streak is a longer winning streak. Orlando City won't have a chance to extend their run of form this weekend, as the club has a bye week, but there are two huge games left and if the Lions can win both, they might just sneak through the back door into the MLS playoffs.

That wouldn't have been possible without a big win over the Montreal Impact on Saturday night, but the Lions pulled it out with an 80th minute winner from Seb Hines. We break down the win over the Impact, including a scary clash of heads between Tommy Redding and Rafael Ramos, a great performance at right back from Brek Shea and a solid showing by the back line and defensive midfield.

We each select our Man of the Match and this week you get three different winners. We also discuss how the yellow cards to Kaká and Shea will affect next week's match against New York City FC and we even get into this Saturday's huge international match-up between the United States and Mexico.

We kept it short and sweet this week. Here's how it happened:

0:26- Our Montreal game rewind looks at a very important win for Orlando City and we still maintain it should have been a 2-0 final.

10:01- Our picks for Man of the Match

14:19- No Kaká or Shea against NYCFC. No problem?

20:10- USMNT vs. Mexico. Who you got?

We'll be back next week to recap the USA-Mexico match and look ahead to another monumental game against New York City FC in the Lions' home finale.

PawedCast Episode 31: New York Red Bulls Review / Montreal Impact Preview

    in Soccer

Three wins in a row. Sounds good, doesn't it? The only thing better than winning three in a row would be to win four in a row.

Orlando City will try to do just that on Saturday and if the club pulls through, the playoffs are still not out of the realm of possibility. It will be a tough challenge against a Montreal Impact club that's very much in form since the addition of superstar striker Didier Drogba. We're here to preview that imporant match-up.

But first, we want to dwell on the past. Specifically, we want to dwell on a big 5-2 win at Red Bull Arena last Friday night. Cyle Larin, Carlos Rivas, Luke Boden, Lewis Neal, the woodwork...we rate all of their performances. We pick out our Man of the Match selections, as well.

And there's a little Cristiano Ronaldo talk in the air. It's ridiculous but it's out there, so why not talk about it?

We close with our key match-ups for this weekend and our score predictions. Here's how it happened:

0:26- Our analysis of a fantastic win over the New York Red Bulls, including hat tricks and goal streaks and all three Designated Players playing well.

15:52- Our MotM selections for last Friday's game, and it's not unanimous.

21:02- Cristiano Ronaldo to Orlando City? We think not but dare to dream!

24:51- Previewing Montreal Impact and what Orlando City has to do to get a win.

32:04- Our key match-ups and final score predictions!

PawedCast Episode 18: Charleston & Montreal Review / Colorado & Columbus Preview

    in Soccer

The fixtures are coming hot and heavy right now for Orlando City as we sweat through the dog days of late June and dread the even more extreme days to come in July and August. As such, there is so much to talk about. In this week's episode, we recap the 4-4 draw in Charleston in which the Lions advanced on penalties, as well as the 2-0 loss at Montreal on Saturday. We surprisingly agreed on our Man of the Match for both games.

We also look ahead at next week's U.S. Open Cup match against Columbus Crew SC and bring in special guest John Rosch, managing editor of Burgundy Wave to preview tomorrow night's big MLS match against the Colorado Rapids. The game will mark the season's halfway point for Orlando City and another three points to take into the weekend off would be most welcome.

And, as usual, we give you our soon-to-be-ridiculed predictions on Wednesday's score against Colorado!

    Here's the breakdown:

0:23- Michael and Austin D discuss the exhausting 4-4 draw and 8-7 PK shootout at Charleston, look ahead to the Crew (again) next Tuesday, and recap a loss at Montreal, in which our Lions just didn't have it.

28:13- John Rosch hops on to give us the lowdown on what we can expect out of the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday night at the Citrus Bowl.

43:41- We wrap things up with our predictions and invite you to throw them back in our faces after they turn out to be hilariously wrong.

That'll do it for this week. We'll be back to do it all again!

PawedCast Episode 17: DC United Review / Charleston & Montreal Preview

    in Soccer

The fixtures are coming hot and heavy now and it's hard to keep up with it all! That's OK, though, when you get to talk about cool things, like Orlando City's 1-0 victory over D.C. United Sunday night at the Citrus Bowl. After playing as well as, or better than, the Eastern Conference leaders over two games and having nothing to show for it, it was easy to be discouraged, but the Lions came through with a Kaká goal and held a very good club off the scoreboard.

We pick our Man of the Match, break down the penalty call on Taylor Kemp and give our general conclusions on the win. We also delve into Wednesday's upcoming U.S. Open Cup match at Charleston against the Battery and Kevin Mercer hits us with a little history on that front.

Dynamo Theory writer Carson Merk covers the Charleston Battery and he dropped by to tell us what we can expect from our old USL rivals. Carson is a confident and biased young man and he doesn't hide that in this interview. But he's also knowledgeable and tells us about the players and tactics we might see this week.

Finally, we look ahead at a tough road match-up with the Montreal Impact in what will be the team's third game in seven days. And, as always, you'll get our bold, sure-to-be-wrong score predictions -- this time for two games!

    Here's your itinerary:

0:26- VICTORY! A look back at Sunday's thrilling 1-0 win over D.C. United, the beasts of the East.

23:50- Carson Merk jumps on to tell us all about Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup opponents, the Charleston Battery.

37:39- A look ahead to Saturday night at the Montreal Impact and FINAL PREDICTIONS!
