On the next installment of the Homestead Honey Hour, Join Noreen as she presents the case of Butter Vs. Margarine. For hundreds of years, humans consumed butter fat, lard and natural forms of fat and oil from animal sources. It was not until the margarine was introduced into the food system that we were told that the latter was bad for us and caused hardening of the arteries and heart disease. Well, what you have been told and what is true are very different stories. Please join Noreen this Thursday evening for this interesting and in depth look at the case of butter vs. margarine. 1/3 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine , softened
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup milk
you can also add in as i mention in the episode. chocolate mint chips and chocolate sause.
1. Beat butter, sugar, egg and vanilla in large bowl until well blended. Add flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt alternately with milk, beating until well blended. Cover; refrigerate dough about 1 hour or until firm enough to handle. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
2. Heat oven to 375°F. Remove wrappers from chocolate pieces.
3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Spread frosting onto cookies, leaving about 1/2 inch around outer edge unfrosted; place chocolate piece in center of each cookie. Makes about 36 cookies.
The food industry is bracing for major changes as the FDA is expected to move forward with eliminating trans fat, a food ingredient seen as a major health risk. Trans fat is used in everything from frozen pizza to margarine to candy. How will this move effect consumers? Beth Warren, a New York-based registered dietitian and nutritionist can speak about trans fats and what consumers need to know about the foods they eat. A trans fat ban hits the kosher community especially hard as most who keep kosher use margarine instead of butter, especially in baked goods. How does this affect Parve products and manufacturers?
Our guest, Beth Warren - with whom we'll be discussing the above subject - is the author of Living a Real Life with Real Food: How to Get Healthy, Lose Weight and Stay Energized – The Kosher Way. She is also a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and a New York State Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist with a private practice in Brooklyn, New York. Beth holds a MS in Nutrition from Brooklyn College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Yeshiva University. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine (DIFM) and Nutrition Entrepreneurs (NE) practice groups, New York State Dietetic Association (NYSDA) and the Society of Nutrition Education (SNE). Beth was first on our show discussing nutrition and her cookbook on March 16th of this year.

The food you are eating is killing you. It is that simple. I can not name a health problem that poses a greater threat to the American people than obesity and its related ailments. In 2010, more than 78 million US adults and 12.5 million children and adolescents were obese. According to recent analysis by Gallup Healthways, the adult obesity rate in 2013 was 27.2%; the highest ever measured. Projections from research supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes, conronary heart diseas and stroke, hypertension and arthritis could increase 10-fold between 2010 and 2020.
There are numerous scholars who have tried to educate the public about HOW to stop getting sick, but the dazzling lights of TV commercials and coupons that entice the public to "buy two for the price of one" and "biggie size" things drown out the cries of wisdom and good counsel.
Dr. Joel Wallach presented a great number of YouTube videos and even developed a line of nutrious supplements in the proper proportions to get ideal health results, but few listened. Rather, the Food and Drug Agency told people to NOT eat eggs and substitute margarine for butter and eat from "food groups" to ensure good health. Meanwhile no one looked at the data that DID NOT support the idea of eating less eggs and not eating butter lowered cholesterol nor decrease the incidence of atherosclerosis and heart disease. "Fast food" became the same as "American food" and women liberation from the kitchen when in reality, it was the beginning of American downfall.
Dr. Joel Wallach proclaims that he can CURE a number of diseases with nutrient replacement. In his book, Dead Doctors Don't Lie he lists cures for diabetes, hypertension and many other scrouges on America's healthcare system today.
