Tonight we'll be discussing some issues surrounding light skin people such as the popular saying "You think you all that cause you light skin!" foolishness.
"Light skin v.s. Dark skin"
"Stereotypes such as Light Skin Vs. Dark Skin within the Black community are cancerous, dangerous, and shape how we view ourselves and our people. Fortunately, we can solve this problem by teaching and mentally reshaping how we’ve been trained to think and behave"
Ben "Teflon" Walton

It's time to address yet another phenomenon that plagues the Black community....Lightskin vs Darkskin.
In comparison to darker skin, studies show that lighter skinned people are less likely to be incarcerated, more likely to be in political leadership, have higher education, income, and job statuses. Is this merely a coincidence, or systematic?
Studies also show that these disparities of light vs dark, happens at a higher rate within the race of blacks, than those outside of the race.
In your day to day interaction, do you see a certain prejudice or bias towards/against the dark skin/light skin individuals? Is this something amongst "US" that speaks to OUR core issues of "self-hate" or is it much to do about nothing?
We wanted to end Black History Month on a discussion that we really need to get past, to be better in the future. Why do we tell others not to discriminate and then turn and do it to ourselves? It's hurtful to the person that is having it done and wrong. Or maybe you feel that your skin tone grants you privileges over others. Whatever side of the spectrum you fall on, it's not right as a people. Let's talk about moving away from the hurt.
It's hard to believe that in 2013, people are still caught up with the complexion of a person's skin when determining beauty, but its very much so the case in today's society. Tune into "The Dedan Tolbert Show" TONIGHT at 9:00pm EST as we discuss "Light Skin VS Dark Skin 2013" and how we can break down these unnecessary barriers...If you've ever been hated on or discriminated against (by men or women) because of your complexion, tune in by calling 646 200 0366 or listen 7 nights a week at www.dedantolbertshow.com
