Let's Coach! with Mark and Carolyn

    in Motivation

Let’s Coach with Mark and Carolyn, Wednesday, June 3, 2015, Noon EST

    Just Imagine

Just imagine – at risk young people with few prospects suddenly presented with the chance to go to camp.  That was Abby Sondak’s dream.  Working in Washington DC’s inner city public schools, she saw plenty of kids with limited opportunities.  Abby decided to do something about it.  She started her own non-profit to send kids to camp so that they could enjoy the same carefree and enjoyable summer fun that she experienced.  Starting with two campers in 2011, Abby decided to create her own non-profit, Just Imagine.  Her campers have flourished and the organization has grown.

Just Imagine was incorporated in 2012 with the goal of being able to provide as many wonderful D.C. Public and Charter school students with the summer experience of a lifetime. With the help from friends, family, camps and other supporters, nine students were able to attend sleep away camp that summer.  That grew to 14 camp scholarships for the summer of 2013 and 22 students with scholarships in 2014. This summer, 45 children will receive scholarships to camp.

Abby Sondak graduated from the University of Maryland in 2009, and began working for a non-profit organization called Playworks. During her time with Playworks, she worked in inner city public schools in Washington DC, creating a safe, inclusive environment for children to play with one another. Following her time with Playworks, she was hired as a PE Teacher at E.W. Stokes Public Charter School in NE DC. She completed a Masters in Elementary Education in May, and has recently been hired as the Development and Communications Manager at Stokes.

Join Mark and Carolyn, as we hear Abby’s inspiring story.  She’ll tell us how her desire to meet student’s dreams resulted in a non-profit that touches the lives of at risk kids.

Back To Basics - Conservatives Need To Learn To Win Again

    in Politics Conservative

I use a great number of sports analogies on my show.  As the 2016 election approach I see consevatives as a team that may have forgotten what it takes to win.  Like in sports there are talented and experienced teams that just should be winning more often but don't.  Most of the time it is after losing time and time again it is ecause they as a team have forgetten what it take to win.

Like the Super Bowl team that doesn't even make the playoffs the following season. That is what we will talk about today.  What will it take to win  in 2016 and beyond. So today we get back to the basics.

SODA: STOP Offshore Drilling in the Atlantic

    in Spirituality

SODA: STOP Offshore Drilling in the Atlantic with Peg Howell

Today we will be discussing oil drilling in the Atlantic.  The risks associated with the development of offshore drilling are significantly greater than the potential economic benefits:

Claims about jobs and revenues attributed to offshore oil and gas development are grossly overestimated.

Seismic survey results are proprietary for 25+ years.  Information NOT shared with the public. Pending seismic surveys are not state of the art technology

Drilling is not safe, hasn't been since BP blowout and recent Cailfornia oil on beach event.

Oil and gas exist together; you can't explore for gas only.

Peg is currently a resident of North Litchfield Beach, SC has a BS in Petroleum Engineering, cum laude, Marietta College, did Graduate coursework in petroleum engineering and economics, Louisiana State University and has a MBA, Harvard Business School, 1984

    Episode 16: It's All About That Bass...Oops!...BALANCE

    in Self Help

Sometimes we hear things like, “We must keep life in balance,” or “It’s all about balance,” and such words sound so cliche that we wave them away—as if we’re saying, Sure, the sentiment is true, but I really don’t want to stop and take the time to apply it to my life. I’ll figure it out later, when things get really bad. And then they do. It’s not until we feel so completely out of balance that we scream for it, which is usually very late in the game…almost too late. Join us today as we speak to John Ayo, author of Travel Balance. Yes, we talk about balance in terms of travel, but it’s not just about the trip, it’s about the journey of life!
