I'm calling this episode "The Epic Episode". Epic Monologue. Epic Guest. Epic Length. Epic!! (and no, I don't mind over-using the word Epic)
Jim Ferrin, CGCS is one of those people that I think everyone should know. I'm biased. I've known him since 1990. When we were just young guys coming up in the business. Jim has excelled. He's a great turf manager. A great people manager. A student of Golf, Agronomy and Life. He's won a ton of awards including the coveted Leo Feser award from GCSAA. He's served in just about every possible way to make our business better. We have an epic conversation. We always do. Because no one can melt my brain like Jim.
I also happened to turn on my microphone and record and Epic Rant. One of those things that I've been trying to write for years and finally the words came to me. So I pulled the starter rope and pressed record. Result, a word strimming session, a buzz cut of one of the things I think is most wrong with our business and why that thinking promotes lack of innovation.
It's a feature length episode. Epic length. But I didn't want to cut it up into little pieces. Like an epic drink, it needs to be taken in one big awesome gulp. Or a series of small drinks at your own speed. But I couldn't and wouldn't cut it up. That's just not fair.
You can reach Jim Ferrin at firstname.lastname@example.org

Something different for you this time: Nationally recognized sport psychologist Dr. Joel Fish visits the Philly Pressbox Radio Roundtable to talk about the mental aspect of sports and the upcoming Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame's 19th annual induction ceremony. (Dr. Fish was a 2015 honoree.) Also on the show: superfan Fred Hugo stops by to talk with Bill Furman and Jim "Chet" Chesko about the Eagles' 2016 draft picks and the red-hot Phillies. Of course, there's our weekly Philly sports trivia question and prize courtesy of Carl's Cards and Collectibles, too; this week's prize is an autographed puck by Flyers Hall of Fame goaltender Bernie Parent.
Acts 19:2 (KJV)
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
Acts 19:5-6 (KJV)
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
John 16:13 (KJV)
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Join Paul Rook and Steve Collier as we are joined once again by Micky Gocool, as we continue the Friday night show's discussion about the UK's UFO Sightings.
In December 1980, two members of a US security patrol at an Air Force base in Suffolk went to investigate a suspicious light in nearby Rendlesham Forest.
One of the men, Jim Penniston, claimed he saw a strange craft in the woods.“I estimated it to be about three meters tall and about three meters wide at the base,” he said. “I walked right up to it. I noticed the fabric of the shell was more like a smooth, opaque, black glass.” The object then apparently vanished, but other staff at the base noticed some strange sights over the next few days.
Former British cop Alan Godfrey believes he was the victim of an alien abduction when he was on a night patrol in November 1980. The respected policeman was suddenly startled by a brightly lit craft on the road in front of him, which he claimed was “the size of a bus. ”The UFO was 14ft tall, rotating and hovering five feet above the ground, but when the creeped-out cop tried to radio for help, Pc Godfrey found his device was dead. The next thing remembered was driving along the road again 30 yards beyond the point where he was stopped.
In 1990, two hikers in the Scottish Highlands were startled when a huge diamond-shaped object appeared in the air, where it hovered for 10 minutes before shooting off into the sky. Whilst most UFO ‘sightings’ lack convincing photo evidence, these savvy spotters managed to snap the mysterious craft. A series of 6 colour photos showed the 25-meter metallic craft with an RAF jet in pursuit, and the pictures were said to be the best ever evidence of UFO activity.
