Dr. Block, Medical Detective - Vaccines and State and Federal Legislation

    in Women

Today, I’m welcoming Dr. Mary Ann Block back to the show to talk about vaccines and legislation. As of this show (3/27/15), Texas Representative Jason Villalba plans to introduce a bill to eliminate religious and philosophical exemptions to school immunization requirements. Much of this activity, locally and federally, was started by a measles outbreak caused by an “unvaccinated woman at Disneyland”. A bill to eliminate these exemptions has already been introduced in California. We’ll be talking about this sudden interest in changing vaccine laws, and what it could mean to you and your family.

    Death and Impermanence

    in Education

Next to public speaking, death ranks very high in a human's biggest fear. But what if we truly believe what all of the spiritual and religious traditions teach about eternity? What if we embraced the true meaning of death and learned to surrender and accept our existence in this incarnation?  Do you know who you truly are? Let's go Down the Rabbit Hole

To Talk Or Not To Talk: Considerations

    in Culture

Coffee House Conversations on Race Relations, sponsored by New Horizons Support Network, Inc. also the sponsors of the Possible Society In Motion Radio Show, are giving Anastasia and Jack a vast portfolio of discussion material from which to draw for this show these days.

However, when it comes to talking about talking, even whether or not to talk, Starbuck’s recent and abortive initiative to bring conversations on race relations into their coffee shop have certainly upped the intensity of discussions on talking.

Should people be talking about race relations? And, where, when and how should they do such talking?

Anastasia and Jack take up these issues on this show. Anastasia who has been watching a movement intent on race and police relations spreading throughout our country, has been seeing growing numbers of citizens yearning to find ways to solve serious community problems by talking their way through them.

Has Starbucks brought this movement to some kind of crescendo? Join Anastasia and Jack as they discuss the situation and its implications.

Again, listeners are encouraged to join Anastasia and Jack for the informal discussion forum following the on-air broadcast at: Conference Call in: 712.432.0600, access code 640883.

"Being You Thursday" image: Who’s in charge of your life?

    in Motivation

That might sound like a strange question. But bear with me here. How often have you said something like:

I’d start my own business if only my partner was more supportive.
    It’s my uncle’s fault that I smoke.
Well, I wouldn’t drink so much if it wasn’t for my friends.
My boss really stresses me out.
I can’t quit my job to travel the world … what would people think?
I have to lose weight so that I can look more attractive.

In each of these cases, there’s a “should” or a “can’t” that’s been dictated by someone other than you. Perhaps it’s a family member, your peer group, or society as a whole. And many of us are prone to ditching responsibility in this way. I know that I, for one, find it much easier to blame my problems on someone else than to admit that they’re down to me!

    Take 100% Responsibility

Several of the personal development writers who I read – Jack Canfield and Steve Pavlina amongst them – emphasize how important it is to take full responsibility for your life.

Yes, of course other people have an effect on us. Perhaps it’s your partner’s fault that your joint credit card is maxed out, or maybe your grandma fed you too much candy as a child and that’s why you have a mouthful of fillings. But in every case, you have a responsibility for what you’re doing about it now.

Alzheimers: Through My Mother's Eyes (with Suzette Brown)

    in Women

Today I’m joined by Suzette Brown, author of “Alzheimers: Through my Mother’s Eyes”. We’re going to be talking about some of the major points from the book, which offers ideas, suggestions and plans of action for caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s.

Her book is real, raw and truly reflects her day-to-day instances of her experiences - good and bad, up and down. She offers caregivers many insights, and examples, including her own viewpoints of what she "should" or "could" have done differently. The emotional and physical endeavors are challenging indeed - in addition to the stress, rage and frustration that are all part of the daily life of a caregiver. Join us to hear more.

    THE BANK HOLIDAY MURDERS-Tom Wescott

    in Entertainment

Jack the Ripper stalked the streets of London’s East End from August through November of 1888 in what is dubbed the ‘Autumn of Terror’. However, the grisly ripping of Polly Nichols on August 31st was not the first unsolved murder of the year. The April murder of Emma Smith and the August murder of Martha Tabram both occurred on bank holidays. They baffled the police and press alike and were assumed by the original investigators to have been the first murders in the series. Where they correct? In this provocative work of literary archeology, author Tom Wescott places these early murders in their proper historical context and digs to unearth new evidence and hard facts not seen in over 125 years. The Bank Holiday Murders is the only book of its kind. It eschews the tired approach of unsatisfying ‘final solutions’ in favor of solid research, logical reasoning and new information. The clues followed are not drawn from imagination but from the actual police reports and press accounts of the time. The questions asked by Wescott are ones first suggested by the original investigators but lost to time until now. The answers provided are compelling and sometimes explosive. Among the revelations are: • New information linking the murders of Smith & Tabram to the same killer(s). • Proof that the police did not believe key witnesses in either case. • Proof that at least one of these witnesses was working with the murderer. • New evidence connecting many of the victims that may lead to their actual slayers. • Information on Emily Horsnell, the ACTUAL first Whitechapel murder victim. • The hidden truth of ‘Leather Apron’ and its role in unraveling the Ripper mystery. • Proof of a corrupt police sergeant who thwarted the investigation. Was he protecting the Ripper? THE BANK HOLIDAY MURDERS: The True Story of the First Whitechapel Murders-Tom Wescott.
