My Comments/Review Of; The Planet That Wasn't - By Isaac Asimov - "In 1909, the American astronomer William Wallace Campbell went further, and stated categorically that there was nothing inside Mercury's orbit that was brighter than the eighth magnitude. That meant that nothing was there that was larger than forty-eight kilometers in diameter. It would take a million bodies of that size to account for the movement of Mercury's perihelion(2). With that, hope for the existence of Vulcan flickered nearly to extinction. Yet Mercury's perihelion did move. If Newton's law of gravitation was correct there had to be some sort of gravitational pull from inside Mercury's orbit. And, of course, there was, but it originated in a totally different way from that which anyone had imagined. In 1915, Albeit Einstein explained the matter in his General Theory of Relativity. Einstein's view of gravitation was an extension of Newton's--one that simplified itself to the Newtonian version under most conditions, but remained different, and better, under extreme conditions. Mercury's presence so close to the Sun's overwhelming presence was an example of the extreme condition that Einstein could account for and Newton not.
Einstein's calculations showed that this effect just accounts for the motion of Mercury's perihelion, and accounted further for much smaller motions of the perihelia of planets farther out. After this, neither Vulcan nor any other Newtonian mass was needed. Vulcan was hurled from the astronomical sky forever. With a stone serving as a substitute for Zeus, you would surely be willing to allow the phrase "a stone" to be considered the equivalent of Zeus."
Very well, then, who flung Hephaistos (the mythical Vulcan) from the heavens? Zeus! And who flung the planetary Vulcan from the heavens? Einstein! And what does ein stein mean in Einstein's native German? "A stone!" I rest my case." Isaac Asimov

The Cubs keep winning despite some of the team's big offensive names coming up short. But Tommy LaStella and Matt Szczur had a nice week. We touch on Jorge Soler again and the perpetual mystery of whether or not he'll be a big leaguer. Miguel Montero gets hurt and Willson Contreras doesn't come up, which makes sense.
We also talk about Adam Warren, John Lackey, and the plan to pull pitchers early. Whatever happened with that? Oh and was Dusty Baker really that bad? Judging from the analogies we all draw...yes. But we still like him.
Isaac talked to Albert Almora about confidence and the role it plays in the game, which was fascinating.
Then Joel goes into 60 Seconds with a Former Cub and breaks out his thesaurus to describe the zaftig Hector Villanueva.
Ryan's got the Question of the Week on who the Cubs's best player has been so far.
Isaac breaks down a great at bat by his idol Addison Russell in At Bat of the Week.
We'll evaluate Carson Wentz, Isaac Seumalo, the Eagles' later-round draft picks and the NFL Draft as a whole during PhillyPhanatics.com's Philly Sports Talk. The Phillies' surprisingly successful April and the Flyers' offseason challenges also will be topics. If time, the NBA and NHL playoffs may also be discussed. Join the discussion or ask a question for draft expert Gordon Glantz, Josh Landsburg, Ron Opher and host Eric Fisher during the live show by calling 1-805-727-7014.
Join me tonight as we break down the book of Genesis. This is a book that has to do with the beginning.Genesis is the book of beginnings. It records the beginning of time, life, sin, salvation, the human race, and the Hebrew nation. It begins with primeval history centered in four major events: the Creation, the Fall, the Flood, and the dispersion of the nations. Genesis then narrates the history of four great patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. Have your bible oen and ready to go.

Jake Arrieta threw another no-hitter and no one is that surprised...talk about high expectations.
Ryan has our question of the week on Rizzo hitting homeruns, Joel can't quite match last week's 60 Seconds with a Former Cub, but he gives it a shot with Bill Madlock, and Isaac has our At Bat of the Week with a Jason Hammel at bat.
I'm so happy to say we are "Moving Forward through the word of God. We have studied the whole New Testiment and have completed Genesis where God created everything. Now we about to take a journey through Exodus with Moses and the people of God. I pray you will join us as we Move Forward.
Exodus 3:2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”
4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
And Moses said, “Here I am.”
5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father,[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
Hosts Phil Bowermaster and Stephen Gordon discuss a major breakthrough in artificial intelligence:
IBM’s resistive computing could massively accelerate AI — and get us closer to Asimov’s Positronic Brain
From the linked story:
Using chips densely packed with these RPU tiles, the researchers claim that, once built, a resistive-computing-based AI system can achieve performance improvements of up to 30,000 times compared with current architectures, all with a power efficiency of 84,000 GigaOps per-second per-watt. If this becomes a reality, we could be on our way to realizing Isaac Asimov’s fantasy vision of the robotic Positronic brain.
And it’s not just Asimov’s robots -- Data on Star Trek also had a positronic brain...
If true AI is on its way, we better start unlearning some of our misconceptions about it. Luckily, George Dvorsky is on the case:
Everything You Know About Artificial Intelligence is Wrong
Well, maybe not everything. But then for something this important, we don't want to be wrong about anything, do we?
