power of perception with writer Tannis Laidlaw

    in Spirituality

    Bio for Tannis Laidlaw

Tannis was born in Canada then emigrated to New Zealand to do various degrees in Psychology/Psychiatry. She started writing early (a soppy poem published in her High School Yearbook) but quickly turned to academic writing. Some sixty publications on, she began the fun of writing fiction.

In the meantime, she worked as an OT, a psychologist or a researcher in large mental hospitals or universities, in community psychiatry, in forensic psychology, and in private practice.

Somehow she accumulated eight novels on her hard drive before she thought some might be publishable. Recently her agent has found her a publisher, and she now has a contract to write two murder mysteries. She published PUMPKIN EATER with a small NZ publisher, then self-published BYE BABY BUNTING and recently HALF TRUTHS AND WHOLE LIES.

PUMPKIN EATER is the story of the aftermath of a woman who snapped, a woman who was both physically and emotionally abused in the past, who broke away from her awful husband by throwing him down the stairs leaving him in a pool of blood, then escaping. Great fun to write!

BYE BABY BUNTING centres around a young university student who becomes an ‘unwed mother’, is pressured to give up her baby for adoption, then steals her back again. Like PUMPKIN EATER, this is a psychological thriller.

HALF TRUTHS AND WHOLE LIES takes place in an English medical school where our protagonist has been head-hunted to lead a research team. She encounters a bully for a boss, a woman who will stop at nothing to gain the prestige she wants. Workplace bullies have long fascinated Tannis…

She also wrote and published CUT THE CARBS, CUT THE GUT, a review, put into layman’s language, of the science behind a largely unacknowledged diet for health and weight loss.

Is There Power In the Steps or do the Steps Show Us Our Need For a Power?

    in Family

Step One: "We admitted "WE" were powerless over alcohol (addiction) - that our lives had become unmanagable." Who cares to admit complete defeat? Admission of powerlessness is the first step in liberation. Relation of humility to sobriety. Mental obession plus physical allergy, and spiritual malady. Why must every A.A. hit bottom? We know that little good can come to any alcoholic who joins A.A. unless he has first accepted his alcoholism (addiction) and all its consequences. Until he so humbles himself, his sobriety - if any - will be null and void. Of real happiness he will find none at all. Proved beyond doubt by an immense experience, this is one of the facts of A.A. life. The principle that we shall find no enduring strength until we first admit complete defeat is the main taproot from which our whole Society has sprung and flowered. It is a statistical fact that alcoholics/addicts almost never recover on their own resources, and this has been true ever since man has been crushing grapes.

Few people will sincerely try to practice the A.A. program unless they have hit bottom. For practicing A.A.'s remaining eleven Steps means the adoption of attitudes and actions that almost no alcoholic who is still drinking can dream of taking. Who wishes to be rigorously honest and tolerant? Who wants to confess his faults to another and make restitution for harm done? Who cares anything about a Higher Power/God let alone meditation and prayer? Who wants to sacrifice time and energy in trying to carry A.A.'s message to the next sufferer? No, the average alcoholic, self-centered in the extreme, doesn't care for this prospect - unless he has to do these things in order to stay alive himself. Join me and my special guest Monty Meyer aka the Monty'man from Take12radio.com this Fri nite Mar 27th at 9pm CT as we discuss dfferent versions of how people see the steps worked, then the proper way to work the steps

Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1059

    in Self Help

SPECIAL TOPIC Night - "For Our Kids" - Deborah Maddison and Tracy Baxter, Canadian activists from British Columbia, will join Bill Murray to lead this evening's discussion about the Rights of Children and Families in North America. Tonight's TOPIC: Are We Creating Monsters? Are 'monsters' made or are they born? Is our society's War on Children and Families creating more casualties then we realize? Not only are we creating victims when we rip families apart but we are also creating new offenders who'll go on to create even more victims of their own, or we are creating more victims to be prey. The reality is that nobody goes through the trauma of this system undamaged. The question is, how much damage is really being done, and just exactly what is it costing us as a society? Join us for a very special edition of the "For Our Kids" talk show where we talk with Psychologist Dr. Jim Singer, Eugena Couture, author of 'Adoption Not An Option' and Dave Kyle, an expert on serial killers. He's done extensive research on this subject, including interviews with such notorious killers as Clifford Olson. Hear the real truth behind these killers and what made them who and what they are. The parallels to CPS and Family Court are beyond chilling. Just what kind of a future is our society creating? The facts will astound you. ~~ Every two weeks a new THEME will be presented in this series, with frequent special guests speaking from their own experience. ~~ Please see our web page at: www.NAASCA.org/ForOurKids or write to: naasca.forourkids@gmail.com

Are seniors citizens 55 or older relevant?

    in Entertainment

Our demograpic is between the ages of 19-49 Did you know the seniors are only targeted in ads about 1%. That is why the question. Are seniors citizens 55 or older relevant?

    Aging Population Around the World
The increase in seniors is not just limited to the United States; there is also an aging population explosion in many other countries. According to the AoA, this increase can be attributed to ?advances in science, technology and medicine leading to reductions in infant and maternal mortality, infectious and parasitic diseases, occupational safety measures, and improvements in nutrition and education.?

In 2000, approximately 605 million people were 60 years or older. By 2050, that number is expected to be close to 2 billion. At that time, seniors will outnumber children 14 and under for the first time in history.
