    Metalsmith Benchtalk Past Favorites with Robert Liu, Editor of Ornament Mag.

    This Thursday, July 30th, 2015 at 3 p.m. PST on MetalSmith BenchTalk, we will be re-airing one of our favorite past episodes with guest Robert Liu, Editor Ornament Magazine. 


     


    About Robert: Robert Kung Shan Liu was born in Rome in 1938 and immigrated to the US from China after World War II with his mother and 4 siblings. Trained as an ethologist and ichthyologist, the Dr. Liu received his Ph.D. from the UCLA where he worked on experimental gerontology and immunology in the Dept. of Pathology, School of Medicine until 1975. Founder of the magazine "The Bead Journal" in 1974, Dr. Liu and his wife Carolyn L.E. Benesh are publishers and coeditors of its successor, "Ornament" since 1978. 


     


    Self-trained as a jeweler and photographer, he has written extensively on ancient, ethnic and contemporary personal adornment, as well as gerontology, ichthyology (Ichthyology [from Greek] is the branch of zoology devoted to the study of fish), animal behavior, military technology, and construction equipment. Liu started collecting and researching beads in 1972, in addition to designing jewelry that incorporated beads and other artifacts.     Myeloma Crowd Radio/MCRI: Dr. Guenther Koehne, MD, PhD, MSKCC

    Join us for our second interview on Myeloma Crowd Radio highlighting the new Myeloma Crowd Research Initiative on high-risk myeloma. As part of this series, Dr. Guenther Koehne, MD, PhD of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center will share his use of a T cell vaccine with an allogeneic transplant to provide outstanding results, even in plasma leukemia patients. His research pulls out T cells, marks them with a tag to target the WT1 protein, and are given back. He will describe how this works, the impact he has seen so far, the stage of his clinical trial and the work left to do to make this an available therapy for high-risk myeloma patients. 


    Dr. Guenther Kohene, MD, PhD is Medical Director of the Cell Therapy Laboratory in the Bone Marrow Transplantation Laboratory at Sloan Kettering. He is also Assistant Member and Assistant Attending Physician in the Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplantation Service. He is Assistant Professor of the Joan and Sanford Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He leads research at the BMT Department/Immunology Program to develop adoptive immunotherapeutic strategies for post-transplant blood disorders. He has particular expertise in the creation and monitoring of antigen-specific T cell responses in these patients. He is the Principal Investigator in active clinical trials using adoptive cell therapy following allogeneic stem cell transplants for multiple myeloma and plasma cell leukemia patients. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Hamburg, Germany and has been at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center permanently since 2005.

Also, she was the AAMC representative for the school.  For her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology she chose the University of Tennessee, Memphis.

    In the last several weeks ee have interviewed numerous professionals like Susan Sneff, PhD on GMO and glyophosphates; Dr. Gaundry on APOE; and the Institute for Methylation and Bio Individualized Medicine taught a seminar covering epigenetics, methylation, gastrointestinal issues, immunology, neurotransmitters and neuropsychiatry, as well as  hormonal balancing.
