CAN YOU BE CONSCIOUS/PRO BLACK AND STILL SEND YOUR CHILDREN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
We hear in the news so many negative incidents involving Black children in the American Education System. Everything from neglence, suspensions, to improper special education assigments, violence, sexual misconduct and of course blatant racism/discrimination.
According to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Education, as a whole, home-schooling grew from 1.7 percent of the school-age population in 1999 to 2.9 percent in 2007, a total of more than 2 million families. An estimated 220,000 of those students are African-American, according to The National Home Education Research Institute.
Will America ever master education reform that is equal, unbiased and empowering? Many Black families are now homeschooling their children with successful results.
Please join Denise bolds and special guest Nomalanga Mhlauli-Moses, founder of The Black Home School, an empowering and comprehensive resource for homeschooling Black children as the discussion of educating the Black child OUTSIDE of the traditional setting and the advantages.

As states continue to cut public education budgets and kids fail to graduate from high school, many parents are looking towards home schooling as a viable option to bridge the learning gap.
In 2007, the number of homeschooled students was about 1.5 million, an increase from 850,000 in 1999 and 1.1 million in 2003. The percentage of the school-age population that was homeschooled increased from 1.7 percent in 1999 to 2.9 percent in 2007.
The increase in the percentage of homeschooled students from 1999 to 2007 represents a 74 percent relative increase over the 8-year period and a 36 percent relative increase since 2003.
In 2007, the majority of homeschooled students received all of their education at home (84 percent), but some attended school up to 25 hours per week. Eleven percent of homeschooled students were enrolled in school less than 9 hours per week, and 5 percent were enrolled between 9 and 25 hours per week.
