This week on The Authentic Woman, Guest Host Susan Singer interviews a gifted, talented, self-taught photographer and storyteller, Sylvia DeVoss.
Sylvia began life as a Jehovah’s Witness, was kicked out for heresy at age 13, went off the deep end, married, had a child, divorced, spent five months in a mental institution due to a case of mistaken identity, loved women, realized she was gay (yes, in that order), then slowly began her climb back to sanity with the help of friends, art, and her tremendous courage. Sylvia has battled depression that threatened to consume her, but she is now on the other side and celebrating each day. Her artwork conveys her intense love of music, her twin granddaughters, and nature. Her storytelling is the most natural thing about her; it is impossible to talk to Sylvia without getting wound into one of her stories about her fascinating life. This show will take you into the mind of this remarkable woman.
Susan Singer is an artist, activist, writer, speaker, and teacher. She is currently starting a business with her husband, Chris Payton, and working on the final chapters of her new book, I Wonder What Would Happen If.... Susan's art will be on display in Richmond and Lynchburg, VA during 2014 and 2015.

This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forebearers. It is my claim that the artists are the true revolutionaries, their work honest and filled with raw unedited passion. They are our true heroes. Ashay!

Assisting me is my spirit teachers; we will answer questions and give love based advice. The primary intent is helping you deal with the fears and beliefs that keep you from being truly happy, healthy and being a love based person. The focus will be on healing of soul, mind, and body. Love energy is the key to healing. Love is: compassion, respect, and kindness, and forgiveness, generosity of spirit, humor, and appreciation. These principals of love can assist in all forms of healing.
I will also present material to entertain and hopefully help you laugh. Laughter is a key in all healing.
We will look at your past lives and what fear based beliefs you brought to this life. I will also present messages from those loved ones who have passed and what they have to say about your situation. The material comes from abilities to read people as a medical and soul intuitive, many years as a Shaman, Reiki practitioner, Hypnotherapist, and study of metaphysics.

About Master Trevor Allen: I was born in Melbourne, Australia. A successful competitive ballroom dancer and an avid athlete, I received a Diploma of Sports Massage in 2004. My experience prior to that is varied, having worked in the hospitality and printing industry for a number of years. I have practiced tai chi for thirty years for physical and mental well-being, and have not required prescription medication for nearly forty years.
At age 16 I was given a message from the Divine to help heal Mother Earth. In 1984 I found a spiritual teacher and studied meditation, karma, reincarnation, and the middle path of Buddhism. I learned about unconditional service and chanting. I met Master Sha in 2006, six years after my teacher transitioned from the physical world. I responded immediately to his teachings and his offer to cleanse my personal karma. I cried tears of gratitude to have my personal karma leave me. I shared with others about my experience of having my personal karma cleansed, telling them that this has not been offered before and to grab the opportunity! When the student is ready, the teacher appears. I cannot thank the Divine and Master Sha enough.
