The rise of the lunatic asylum and its gradual transformation into, and eventual replacement by, the modern psychiatric hospital, explains the rise of organized, institutional psychiatry. While there were earlier institutions that housed the 'insane,' the arrival at the answer of institutionalisation as the correct solution to the problem of madness was very much an event of the nineteenth century.
To illustrate this with one regional example, in England at the beginning of the nineteenth century there were, perhaps, a few thousand "lunatics" housed in a variety of disparate institutions but by 1900 that figure had grown to about 100,000. That this growth should coincide with the growth of alienism, now known as psychiatry, as a medical specialism is not coincidental.:14

Have you had your healthy dose of reality lately?
There are always at least two sides to every story. Have you ever wondered how someone, who saw the same thing you did, walked away telling a vastly different story? Which version was correct? Which one was the REAL story? Actually, both are! It’s just a matter of perspective.
Joe takes the issues… especially the controversial issues (politics, prejudice, religion, illegal immigration)… and brings in people from different sides to share their viewpoint. This is definitely not a fluff piece. And while no one is attacked, the questions are hard-hitting.
But the conversation is always respectful and you’re sure to learn something new, even if you don’t agree!
If you’ve always wondered how the “other side” thinks and how they’ve arrived at their “stand”, then this is the show for you!
It’s not the right side, it’s not the wrong side, but the REAL side of the issues!

50 Shades of Grey
The controversy over the books and now the movie rages on and both sides continue to cling steadfastly to their beliefs, either deplorable or romantic. Now, you get to chime in with your opinion as I chat this week with both a young writer, Tracy Hancock and Chris Mallette, who advocates for domestic violence victims.
Together, we will explore the myths and misconceptions around the books and the movie and give you the opportunity to expand your understanding of the “grey” area between abuse and romance.
Tracy, having read the books and watched the movie will share her knowledge as a college graduate, writer and author. Chris Mallette is the founding executive director of the Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance in southern Oregon. Chris will impart her personal and professional expertise and insight into what the “grey” area means for all women. Be sure to join us for this 1st edition of the new and expanded Wise Woman Radio! 7:00 pm PT
Revelation’s main prophetic message is unveiled primarily through seven sets of symbols sketched on a scroll fastened with seven successive seals. Jesus Christ breaks the seals and opens the scroll before John’s eyes (Revelation 6:1). John sees and describes the symbols of the vision, each having a specific prophetic significance. As we have already seen, Christ alone has the right to unveil the meaning of the seals. But He does not fully explain each seal in this context. In fact, He had already...
Okay, so if you're dating a guy for a while and they are aware that you're not using a form of birth control ,how is he not responsible for making a woman pregnant? So many people say women "trap" men into getting them pregnant as if men can't control where their sperm travels to or they don't understand how women end up in that position.
The way I look at it, if a man knows a woman is not on bc and doesnt take any precautions he is choosing to take the risk of becoming a parent. Yet some people think the woman does it on "purpose".
Before my pregnancy I was thinking about birth control and which one I should choose with the least side effects/complications.But now, here I am!
Finding himself faced with his partner's unplanned pregnancy, today's man may well be confronted for the first time with a situation in which his opinions and beliefs carry less weight than those of his female partner. In absence of a critical day-to-day assessment of their gender-based privilege and power, privileged men rarely find themselves pushed to recognize the negative effects of their power on the lives of others. So when men create an anti-abortion movement that turns a woman's decision to have an abortion into a story of male victimization and loss of fatherhood, their reaction is understandable — and even predictable.
But the men who claim that they have been victimized by abortion were not powerless to prevent their circumstances. When a couple uses contraception, they make an implicit agreement that they are not ready to be pregnant. For a man to not be ready to face these decisions, have unprotected sex, and then be upset with his partner for having obtained an abortion and deprived him of his reproductive rights is totally contradictory.

The Jaxon Navarro Gilmore case is a tragic case. His Maternal Grandmother Jessica Navarro-Gilmore, has her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and loves and has the ability to care for her grandson, baby Jaxon. The Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) is blocking her from doing so, while this medically frail child is in a foster care home with strangers. Jessica already has custody of her granddaughter with the approval of the same agency, (DCF), that is blocking her from having Jaxon home in a loving caring family environment. Jessica adopted her granddaughter from DCF who clearly had no concerns of her parenting. Her granddaughter is healthy and thriving in her Grandmother’s care.
Jaxon is Blackfoot Indian and Taino Indian with loving family ready, willing and able to step up and provide the necessary care for him. The only rational reason that Jaxon is being kept from re-joining his loving family is the funding he can bring to the state from contracts with certain hospitals and providers.
Two years ago Jessica was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after the sudden and tragic loss of her daughter. Jessica’s young granddaughter was adopted by Jessica less than 2 years ago in the State of Connecticut with no issues whatsoever, despite her diagnosis of PTSD. Just as her condition in no way affects her ability to care for and love her granddaughter, neither would it affect her ability to care for baby Jaxon.
