The Heretics' Hour: Does Germany owe Greece ... anything?

    in Education

Greece has come up with "war crimes" from WWII against "Nazi" Germany that they want today's German government to compensate them for, and which they say amount to several hundred billions of euros. Show 45: Debra Germany - Turning Personal Tragedy into Community Transformation

    in Education

MSOL graduate Debra Germany knows first-hand how to turn tragedy into a positive and transformative leadership opportunity, serving others around her through her unique experience. Debra is the Executive Director of Divine Intervention Ministry (DIM), a faith-based organization dedicated to restoring the lives of incarcerated adults and at-risk youth.

On July 9, 2001, her only child, Raymond, was murdered in the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh.  Ms. Germany says that DIM was birthed in her spirit through the death of her son.  Since DIM's beginnings in 2002, Ms. Germany worked to find community solutions to crime and soothe grieving family members. In 2006, DIM changed directions to its current mission with the launch of the IMPACT (Interceding Making Positive Actions Come Together) program, focusing on restoring the lives of incarcerated adults and at-risk youth. Debra has also worked in partnership with the Pennsylvania Prison Society to develop the Building Bridges program where trained mentors are matched with pre- and post-released inmates to assist in their societal reintegration.

Recently, DIM began a partnership  with Renewal, Inc. an organization that provides alternative housing and community corrections services to individuals in the criminal justice system. DIM initiated a faith-based 12 Week transitional programs that offer discipleship, practical resources and mentoring for inmates who are nearing release. Ms Germany is a licensed minister at Jesus Dwelling Place in North Braddock, PA, a former board member of the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime, and a recipient of numerous awards. Ms. Germany has inspirationally turned her personal tragedy into community transformation through servant leadership. Tune in with John Stanko as he and Debra recount her incredible journey and discuss how her MSOL experience continues to be lived out in her endeavors.

FROM HOLLYWOOD USA TO NUREMBERG, GERMANY

    in Entertainment

Wednesday, April 2, 3 pm ET, The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Talk Radio for Fine Minds will travel from Hollywood, USA to Nuremberg, Germany to bring you two stories of World War II only recently uncovered.

Joining the show is author Tim Townsend whose new book Mission at Nuremberg, An American Army Chaplain and the Trial of the Nazis tells the controversial and thought-provoking story of Army Chaplain Henry F. Gerecke. At the end of World War II, Gerecke was recruited for the most difficult job of his life: ministering to twenty-one prominent Nazi leaders awaiting trial at Nuremberg, including Hermann Goering, a chief architect of Hitler’s “Final Solution” and Joachim von Ribbentrop, Foreign Minister of Nazi Germany. Townsend, a former religion reporter at the St. Louis Dispatch, holds master’s degrees from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and Yale Divinity School.

In Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War, Mark Harris brings us the untold story of the extraordinary wartime experiences of five of Hollywood’s greatest and most legendary directors, all of whom put their stamp on World War II, and were changed forever by their experience. Harris explores the “lost chapters” of  celebrated directors: John Ford, William Wyler, John Houston, George Stevens, and Frank Capra who left Hollywood at the peak of their success to join the Armed Forces and shape the way America saw the war. Harris is the author of Pictures at a Revolution: Five Movies and the Birth of the New Hollywood, a New York Times notable book of the year, and a columnist for. Entertainment Weekly. He is a graduate of Yale University.
