    Boxing History: Light Heavyweight Rematches

    in Sports

This weekend's HBO main event is a rematch between Sergey Kovalev and Jean Pascal that nobody really asked for and few seem to want. There has been some weird press conference drama, but otherwise we could just do without it. Fighters do have to fight, though.

As an accompaniment to this light heavyweight rematch, Aris Pina of Compubox and The Fight City's Patrick Connor, both total suckers fo fight history, talk about other notable rematches at 175 pounds.

From Roy Jones Jr. vs Montell Griffin II to Dennis Andries vs Jeff Harding II, and back around again to Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Marvin Johnson II... Plus a lot more.

    Please rate us in iTunes!

THE MARK presents STARLOG Magazine's DAVID McDONNELL

    in Entertainment

Starlog, the pioneering science fiction media magazine, launched in June 1976. Initially, it was intended to be a one-and-done publication entitled Star Trek, focusing solely on the space saga created by Gene Roddenberry. But lawyers intervened to avoid any hassles, and publishers Norman Jacobs and Kerry O’Quinn wisely renamed the magazine and expanded its coverage to the wider arena of SF and fantasy films and TV. So, you see, Starlog’s DNA has always been entangled with Star Trek.

Starlog was a monthly magazine devoted to science fiction films, television series, and books published by Starlog Group, Inc. One of the longest-running and most popular publications of its type. Starlog was one of the first publications to report on the development of the first Star Wars movie, and it also followed the development of what was to eventually become Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Dave McDonnell joined the Starlog fleet in October 1982 after a stint (his first professional job) at Mediascene Prevue, a magazine that examined (in a motto he coined) "Today’s Personalities and Tomorrow’s Entertainment." It was a periodical edited, designed and published by the legendary Marvel Comics writer-artist Jim Steranko (famed for his iconic run on Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and for creating the concept art that helped sell Raiders of the Lost Ark).

    Announcing The Word

    in Religion

Announcing The Word broadcast is a the weekly bible study offered by Pastor Gene Tatum of Among Friends Cowboy Ministries, the evangelistic outreach of Friendship Community Church in Eastern Texas near Nacogdoches.  Prior to pastoring the church, Gene was a Rodeo Announcer for some 30 years in TX, LA, MS, AK and NC. He and his wife Pam often provided "Cowboy Church" in the Arena before or after the events they worked.  As an announcer they were also called on to MC other Equestrian Events, Dog Shows, Ranch Rodeos, Team Ropings, etc. He began pastoring by opening a small country church in Looneyville, TX on a bi-weekly basis in 2010. In August 2011 during a rodeo, Gene had a heat stroke at the microphone during the performance.  With the assistance of the paramedics (his wife being one of them) he finished the show.  He was taken to his motel room and there the Lord spoke to his heart that "he was done" as a rodeo announcer and that he was to go fulltime into the ministry. Announcing the Word Ministries then became "AMONG FRIENDS COWBOY MINISTRIES" and services were being held every Sunday each month. The ministry has seen a steady growth after only starting with 8 on that first Sunday in 2010.  The sanctuary has been remodeled with a new ceiling and new carpet.  The fellowship area was completely remodeled along with Sunday school rooms and the restroom facilities. A riding arena is under construction and will be ready in the spring to teach "Life's Lessons" by demonstrations on horseback and natural situations in the western way of life. AFCM is an active member of the International Cowboy Church Alliance Network (ICCAN).  Come ride the trail with us as we study God's Word in truth and Spirit.
