It's Monday, and Graphic Policy Radio is back at its normal time. This week we're going a little bit serious, and mixing it with some entertainment.
On this episode:
The nasty side of online geek culture again reared its ugly head as threats were made towards a respected female member of the community. You can read the original article posted here, as well as two follow up articles here and here.
We're discussing our favorite costumes in comic books! That's right, we go over what we feel are the best designs, both in look and actual use.
We discuss the latest hit BOOM! Studios/BOOM! Box series Lumberjanes!
Tomb Raider is up to issue three. We both thought the first issue was good, but how have the latest two issues been? Find out here!
So join us this Monday we want to hear from you! Call in with your thoughts or Tweet them to us, @graphicpolicy.
It has been the rise of the geeks! But who are they? Are they all just Science Fiction and Fantasy Geeks? Or do other genres like horror, mystery/thrillers, and romance have their geekdom as well and can we all just get along? Join The Write Pack as the explore geekdom, Comic Con, Bouchercon, gaming, role playing games, comic books, and the past and modern age of geekdom—including crowdsourcing films like Veronica Mars, Star Trek Axanar, and Star Trek Renegades.
Also, here is an article from the BBC about D&D as it was looked at 30 years ago, when there was a mania against parts of Geek culture: The great 1980s Dungeons & Dragons panic: http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26328105
Jennifer and Luis discuss the ongoing trend of geek culture becoming chic and becoming more prevalent in popular culture. From music, to movies, to comics, and clothing, geek icons, references, and more are invading. If you know how to program, if you're a tech entrepreneur, or the founder of a start-up, these people are the new cool. There seems to be an entire shift in mindset over what used to be a blemish on your social status. Is this good or bad and how long can it last?
Pastors Will & Debbie Landy will help you understand what it means to live the culture of the Kingdom. Jesus preached and demonstrated the Kingdom but His goal was also to cause the character of God, His culture, Kingdom culture to be made manifest within each of us. The Landy's will help you discover the truth and eliminate the obstacles to Kingdom living.
We discuss the many so-called 'issues' people are facing today, which seem to relatively be 1st world problems for those that can afford to have a problem of this magnitude. We discuss personal stories, read posts that were posted online from several different people & even go into detail about what people love, what they strongly dislike, & the ins/outs of life today in 2015. We truly take the time & effort to bring to you honesty about these things and hope you enjoy the show!
I am also discussing the upcoming WOMEN IN HORROR month & an epic long rant I've posted only on my FB site for now, but so much more to come.
Tonight we count down lists of what others found the absolute most memorable in entertainment. These can be from movies, music, stage, theater, and even online presences count, as we have a few that we shall bring up that cannot be missed. Show is opening with a person that is an underground cult hit classic, and voted #1 of the most memorable characters. Not many may recognize her at all, but she seems to be huge for horror/sci-fi underground fans.
Lists shall be read in no particular order.
Have a blast!

.Created and Codified white values in Black minds and was meant to re-enslave and to prevent the existing free Black population from growing by instigating measure to decline manumission of the
Black population that sought either to purchase there own freedom or the freedom of a relative. Meritorious Manumission was the legal act of freeing an enslaved Black person who distinguished himself for a good deed by saving:
1) Saving a white’s life,
2) Protecting a white’s property
3) Inventing something from which a white could profit and
4) Snitching on fellow Blacks plans of revolt against white control.
