    Measure B – Part Duex

    in Current Events

Our guests this morning are Eric Pendergraft of AES and Redondo Beach Mayor Steve Aspel.

Steve Aspel is currently serving as the 29th Mayor of the City of Redondo Beach, having won the

    election in May 2013.

Steve began his public service career in 1998 as a Planning Commissioner. In 2005, he was elected to the

Redondo Beach City Council representing District 1 for a 4 year term. He was successfully re-elected in

    2009 for another 4 years.

Eric Pendergraft is currently responsible for AES's business development activities in California, which

include plans to modernize several existing natural-gas fired generating plants, and the development of

the world’s largest battery storage system.  These new development projects will be built at the

Company’s existing power plant sites in Los Angeles and Orange County.

Eric is also leading the effort to transform the Redondo Beach waterfront by giving the voters the

opportunity to phase out the existing AES power plant and eliminate all future industrial uses on the

property forever. Measure B would rezone the 50-acres of land where the AES power plant now

operates, changing it from “industrial” to “residential" and “mixed-use” and allowing the development

    of an attractive harbor-side village.

Eric joined the company in 1998 when AES purchased three power plants in the greater Los Angeles

areas from Southern California Edison, where he previously worked.

“If Satan tempted Jesus, what about you” Matthews 4:1-11

    in The Bible

    Inspirational  Wednesday – Hosted by Dianne Adams – Wednesday, February 25, 2015 @ 8:30 P.M.

“If Satan tempted Jesus, what about you"

    Matthew 4:1-4

4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God.

Janine Blaeloch of Western Lands Project on BLM & Forest Service Land Swaps

    in Politics

Our guest will be Janine Blaeloch, Founder & Director of Western Lands Project, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that fights public land privatization in order to protect the environment and the public interest.  Their mission is to scrutinize public land trades, sales, giveaways, and any project that would cede public land.  Their goal is to keep public land public.

Janine will talk about the destructive utility-scale solar plants planned on 19 million acres of public lands open to industrial solar applications, instead of alternatives that would focus solar development on degraded lands and in the already-built environment.

Each year, approximately 200 land deals are proposed by the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service, in addition to those introduced by legislation.  The BLM & the Forest Service do exchanges of land with private parties, including timber companies, mining corporations, ranchers, and developers

While the two sides must get lands of equal market value, and the exchange must create a net benefit for the public, the appraisal process can be corrupted and the public interest is often ignored.  For years, the Forest Service was trading lushly forested lands to timber companies in exchange for the cut-over, damaged land the companies had already exploited.

And in the U.S. Congress, members wheel, deal, carve up, and give away public lands with no regulations to hinder them.  Frequently, the bottom line is the direct, pragmatic opportunity to reward friends or curry political favor through the gift of public land.

    Climate Action with Russell Greene

    in Politics Progressive

Last week an oil train carrying explosive Bakken crude derailed and caught fire in Fayette County, West Virginia. Forty-eight hours earlier, on Saturday, an oil train carrying toxic Alberta tar sands derailed and spilled in Ontario, Canada.

Todd Paglia, Forest Ethics executive director, released the following statement:“Oil trains are simply too dangerous for the rails. Whether it is explosive Bakken crude or toxic Alberta tar sands this extreme oil cannot be transported safely by train. Twenty-five million Americans live in the blast zone and nearly everyone else lives downstream of an oil train route.

Matt Krogh is the Director, Extreme Oil Campaign for Forest Ethics
With over 12 years experience in nonprofit work and advocacy, Matt joined ForestEthics in August 2013 to direct a new campaign targeting tar sands on the West Coast of North America, Tar Sands SOS. Most recently as the North Sound Baykeeper at RE Sources for Sustainable Communities in Bellingham, Washington, Matt has spent the last three years fighting against Gateway Pacific and other proposed coal terminals on the West Coast. As a freelancer, he and his father co-authored a book on integrity and principle-based decision making—both critical components of effective advocacy.

Tom Dowd: Time Management Manifesto (New Book)

    in Self Help

Time management is a disciplined mindset to be able to live in the moment while working toward the future. It is all mental—it’s an attitude.  Having control in your life is about commitment, routines, flexibility, adjustments, and planning.  We create our own self-limitations.  We say we’ll do tomorrow what we really want to do today.  Eliminate what’s holding you back.  “Time Management Manifesto” offers specific actions that will teach subscribers the following themes:

    •           Manage your time, don’t let it manage you

    •           Time management is required of all levels, in all positions

    •           The benefits of managing professional time effectively spill into your personal space

What if you could accomplish more in a forty-hour week then your current fifty, sixty, or seventy-hour work week? What if your success was simply a matter of working smarter, not harder?  Good time management and organizational skills are a must for successful professionals. You’ll be challenged to strengthen your commitments and habits relating to time management and organizational skills without being a slave to it.  You will find the power of routines and people, while learning how to effectively deal with “fire drills” that will reduce stress, increase success, and ensure that you sleep better at night knowing your life is in control.
