Meet AIMI's Drug/Alcohol Treatment Coordinator, Zora Ray, a Volunteer

    in Politics Progressive

Assistance to the Incarcerated Mentally Ill (AIMI) is seeking volunteers. Tonight we welcome Zora Ray, who is AIMI's Advocacy Coodinator for Drug/Alcohol Dependencies, Zora Ray, at 9pmEST. Please call to speak on air at (818) 572-2947. Everyone is invited! Zora is a retired psychiatric nurse who successfully battled drug addiction and depression herself, and she looks forward to helping other people. Email Zora at the address below:

    ZoraJayPhoenix@gmail.com

As a AIMI advocate, Zora will try to find treatment centers and other services for persons who suffer from drug/alcohol dependencies. AIMI believes that persons with drug/alcohol addictions need TREATMENT, NOT PUNISHMENT. Therefore, Zora will attempt to have drug/alcohol-dependent defendants tried in drug courts rather than regular criminal courts, and she will attempt to influence decision makers to sentence addicts to treatment rather than to jails and prisons.

If you would like to work with AIMI as a volunteer, please contact MaryLovesJustice at MaryLovesJustice@gmail.com or call AIMI's director at (678)531.0262 or (571)335-1741. We need people of every race and socioeconomic status, because mental illness affects people from every group. No matter what your skills and educational level may be, AIMI has a volunteer job for you.

Transformation: Not For the Faint of Heart with Frank Ferrante & Edie Weinstein

    in Self Help

Edie Weinstein and Frank Ferrante explore How To Find the Courage To Turn Pain Into Personal Power

In 2006, this morbidly obese, drug addicted, depressed man, diagnosed with Hepatitis C, who was estranged from his family,  made a decision to alter his destiny. He walked into Cafe' Gratitude in San Francisco for a cup of coffee and discovered that they only had a raw foods vegan menu. Figuring he had nothing to lose but his misery and with a desire to live and be in love again, he turned himself over to the supervision of young men half his age and for 42 days invested in a program they designed.

He is the subject of the independent movie entitled May I Be Frank: A Film About Sex, Drugs and Transformation and the book May I Be Frank:  How I Changed My Ways, Lost 100 Pounds and Found Love Again. Both chronicle his inspiring journey. http://www.mayibefrankmovie.com

Edie Weinstein, LSW is a colorfully creative journalist, inspiring transformational speaker, licensed social worker,  interfaith minister, BLISS Coach and the author of The Bliss Mistress Guide To Transforming The Ordinary Into the Extraordinary. She calls herself an Opti-Mystic who sees the world through the eyes of possibility. www.liveinjoy.org
