Ignore the propaganda about today's children in America's urban communities being lazy dropouts that only want tofight and sell drugs. It's not a bit true, and for those who worked with young people this summer, they discovered an enthusiastic group of youth who are excited about science, technology, engineering and math! Lauren Ward, author of The 6 Step Plan: Rising To Greatness To Fulfill Your Destiny, worked with students in the PUSH Excel STEM Program thjis summer, teaching them how to master the new media technology. A recent graduate of Howard University, she recognized that many youth have a burning desire to excel, and merely needed the opportunity to learn. It is our responsibility as parents to cultivate the natural genius in our children, and to ignore the propaganda that others continue to spread, making excuses as to why urban schools are underfunded and undersupported. We can turn our homes into institutions of higher learning. We can give our children a different vision of their future; we can teach them that they are here to take over and change the world that others have destroyed, by discovering new ways to produce fuel, travel, grow food, and communicate. We can instill in our children the reality that the word is falling apart so that they can rebuild it the way it should be - with fairness, justice, and respect for all. Lauren Ward give tips on how to motivate youth to strive for their highest potential.
With more than $1 trillion in student loans outstanding in this country, crippling debt is no longer confined to dropouts from for-profit colleges or graduate students who owe on many years of education, some of the overextended debtors in years past. As prices soar, a college degree statistically remains a good lifetime investment, but it often comes with an unprecedented financial burden.
Caitlin Kovalkoski, Director of Bank Community Engagement will be our guest tonight to discuss options for students and parents as they manage their Me, Inc. Enterprises effectively.

The short “answer,” you can’t. You need to go back and complete school. The value in a credential is in obtaining the credential. Now that we have answered what to do (go back to school), the next step for you to determine is how (what school, when, etc.)!

The Cholocate State of Mind (CSoM) is a liberation movement geared to help African Americans put the pieces of history back together and illuminate the road ahead. CSoM seeks to help bridge the gap between African Americans that have been engineered, by (un)engineering the mental wars within their information to see the wars waged upon its own. CSoM is a race positive organization established to help nourish and nurture its many blossoming flowers within its culture. It is no secret that African American people are the highest in number, in all things negative within this today's society. This means that we are amongst the lowest level as it relates to anything positive within that same category. This is directly related to the number of individuals that are currently incarcerated amongst our people. Studies have shown how the rate of African Americans continues to grow at an alarming rate with regards to diseases, illiteracy, and high school dropouts. And the list goes on and on....
The aspirations of CSoM, the Chocolate State of Mind movement, is to truly give back to its people, their "Information". Bridging the gap through unity for organizations and commonality!

SISFI in association with St. Barnabas Hospital Teen Center invites you to our "Youth Emotional Wellness Summit” on Wednesday, April 16th 2014, 1-4pm at the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club, 543 E. 189th St, Bronx, NY, 10458 to focus on the mental, emotional, spiritual and sociological challenges and impacts of life, parenting, the education system, abuse, peer pressure, substance abuse, gangs, relationships, human trafficking, sexuality, isolation, poverty, lost identity affecting our youth that are forcing them into uncomfortable positions to make serious life choices and sometimes they don't have anyone to guide them or talk with about it. We’re giving them a platform to share, discuss, speak out on what’s truly in their hearts and on their minds so we can understand and help to guide them more effectively. We must understand human behavior and its relevance today before we can truly address the mental and emotional challenges plaguing our communities and people.
We hear about their challenges after they do something "bad" or get into trouble, but that's because we don't see, understand or focus on emotional wellness challenges and needs until after the fact. With suicide attempts and ideations, gun violence, gang initiations, early parenthood, school dropouts and health risks increasing in our youth, we cannot deny the seriousness of the issues and how they permeate our communities. Still, unchecked, we are afraid to face the issues as a whole and still look at them as isolated rather than recognize the need to go back to the source and root cause of the end results. We must come together to listen to them in order to effectively address these issues holistically or we will always be cleaning up and responding to the end results of violence, exploitation, loss of life and incarceration.
The Summit features youth guest speakers addressing important topics through their words and eyes.
Across the USA researchers are gathering data to determine how today's behavioral trends can translate into tomorrows business opportunities for those invested in criminal justice related industries. School dropouts, unemployment, and crime are trends that lead to predictable outcomes. Children who can't read end up in jail. Children who are raised by daycare workers rather than parents end up in jail. Children who get suspended from school end up in jail. Children whose parents don't have money for good legal representation end up in jail. Many industries get paid when parents' relationships fall apart and no one is there to guide the children into a healthy adulthood. It's tiime for us to stop getting angry at those who make money from our dysfunction. How can men and women put aside their differences and work together to save children before they become victims of the criminal justice system?

Why Do App Developers Still Live with Their Moms?
The virtual disappearance of major white-collar employers like
Eastman Kodak and Westinghouse — once fairly reliable career on-ramps —
young talent is focusing on entrepreneurship as a path forward. Some
kids are skipping college entirely and heading straight into business,
pointing to the success of dropouts like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg. But unschooled entrepreneurship is unlikely to end happily for most.
In 2001, the Communication Commission of Kenya reported that the number of mobile phone subscribers had "increased to a staggering 330,000." Looking back, that figure seems laughable; in 2013 the same commission reported 30 million subscribers. The scene is no different across Africa; mobile phone penetration has grown from 1% in 2000 to 54% in 2012.
