Blacks Who Persevered in Spite of Disabilities

    in Self Help

Did you know that Whoopi Goldberg had a learning disorder as a child? Were you aware that Harriet Tubman had epilepsy? These are only two of the many examples of Blacks who became successful despite their disabilities. Some people tend to discourage others with disabilities from achieving their dreams because "it's for their own good"; they want to overprotect them or they just don't understand how a person can accomplish anything despite his/her "limitations." Once you hear these different celebrities' stories, you'll never view people with disabilities the same way again. You will be inspired and encouraged to uplift someone else and even accomplish your own goals!

Should The People of Ferguson Riot If Darren Wilson Is Not Charged With Murder?

    in Women

The police in Ferguson are gearing up for a riot in anticipation of the Grand Jury's decision regarding whether to charge Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown. The parents of Michael Brown are urging protesters to remain peaceful regardless of the outcome. But if there is no charge against Darren Wilson, should citizens be content to do nothing? Police killings of innocent citizens has reached outrageous proportions and some believe that unless the community reacts strongly, the killings will continue. Would rioting discourage future police brutality or will riots only encourage more incidents of violence toward citizens by overzealous police? How else should the community respond? What should the Federal Government do to bring the peace to a broken city where too many people feel hostility and distrust of the police?

6.3 Trillion dollars for Illegal amnesty, which group will get push out?

    in Politics Conservative

Poor whites or poor blacks, who will replace the blacks..., let me take a guess?  Illegal amnesty

How Black Americans Will Be Hurt by an Obama Amnesty

Black Americans will be hurt because the President will flood the labor market with workers who compete disproportionately with black Americans. This will increase black unemployment and discourage some blacks from entering the labor market, and, according to some studies, increase black incarceration rates.

Black Americans are already suffering from higher-than-average unemployment. The 2013 unemployment rate for blacks with no high school diploma was 20.5 percent; for those with such a diploma, 12.6 percent. By contrast, the rate was 7.4 percent for all races and 6.5 percent for whites.1

7.1 million black citizens age 25-54 have a high school education or less; if President Obama succeeds in unilaterally granting work permits to illegal aliens, 6.2 million aliens aged 25-54 with a high school education or less will be able to compete legally for work with those 7.1 million blacks.2

    Amnesty's Impact on Black Americans

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights concluded in 2010 that, "Illegal immigration to the United States in recent decades has tended to depress both wages and employment rates for low-skilled American citizens, a disproportionate number of whom are black men."9

The vast majority of the fiscal costs examined are long-term – including costs associated with Obamacare, Social Security and other entitlements, plus more than 80 means-tested welfare programs. Among the major findings of Rector and co-author Jason Richwine:

Over the course of their lives, former unlawful immigrants together would receive $9.4 trillion in government benefits and services and pay $3.1 trillion in taxes, for a lifetime “fiscal deficit” – at minimum -- of $6.3 trillion (total benefits minus total taxes).

Is investigative journalism a thing of the past?

    in Politics

CBS reporter, Sharyl Attkisson, talks about the shrinking role of investigative journalism in today’s media and the lengths that opponents will go to to discourage and obstruct legitimate reporting.

Have you had your healthy dose of reality lately?

There are always at least two sides to every story. Have you ever wondered how someone, who saw the same thing you did, walked away telling a vastly different story? Which version was correct? Which one was the REAL story? Actually, both are! It’s just a matter of perspective.

Joe takes the issues… especially the controversial issues (politics, prejudice, religion, illegal immigration)… and brings in people from different sides to share their viewpoint. This is definitely not a fluff piece. And while no one is attacked, the questions are hard-hitting.

But the conversation is always respectful and you’re sure to learn something new, even if you don’t agree!

If you’ve always wondered how the “other side” thinks and how they’ve arrived at their “stand”, then this is the show for you!

It’s not the right side, it’s not the wrong side, but the REAL side of the issues!

    This Way to Spiritual Direction

    in Women

Some of the questions we often get asked by mothers who aspire to become entrepreneurs are: “How will I know if this is for me?” “Will I still have time for my family?” “I am unsure if this is what I am meant to do.”

There are many things to consider before you start your mompreneur journey. And if you’ve been and avid listener of Catholic Mompreneurs on Fire, you will recall that aside from the “business” side of mompreneurhood, there are also other things involved like childcare, dealing with distraction while working at home, etc.

But these are not meant to discourage you from dipping your toes into the water. Establishing a mom business is a challenging yet rewarding endeavor. And the road to mompreneurhood can be made bearable if you are guided by your faith.

In today’s episode Peggy O’Flaherty, founder of Creating Space, talks how having spiritual direction can address life’s everyday challenges—including those you encounter in your mom business.
