Dr. Marcia Reynolds- THE DISCOMFORT ZONE: How to Create a "Safety Bubble"

    in Business

THE DISCOMFORT ZONE: How Leaders Turn Difficult Conversations Into Breakthroughs  by Dr. Marcia Reynolds

Leaders, managers, and coaches are charged with getting people to stretch their limits but are often unsuccessful. Top leadership coach Marcia Reynolds says the problem is that when incorrectly handled, difficult conversations create more resistance than growth. Reynolds offers a model and methods for discovering what to say so people change their own minds. As a result, leaders equip people to find their own solutions, see situations more strategically, and grow beyond their limitations.

Reynolds explains how to pick the right time and place to enter the discomfort zone and how to create a “safety bubble” so that people will trust your intentions.

Marcia Reynolds, PsyD, organizational psychologist and certified master coach, is president of Covisioning, a training and coaching firm helping companies worldwide unleash the brilliance in their people. Her clients include American Express, GlaxoSmithKlein, Ernst & Young, and many others around the world. She is a past president of the International Coach Federation.

In her spare time, Marcia accumulates degrees. Her doctoral degree is in organizational psychology with a research focus on high-achievers in today’s corporations. She holds two masters degrees in education and communications.

  • What's the difference between brutal honesty & rudeness?

    in Lifestyle

Do you consider yourself an honest person or are you really just plain rude?!?

If we are truly honest with ourselves, we understand that being rude is merely the expression of transient and fleeting ego thoughts that we express to relieve our own fear, pain and suffering. We articulate our temporary feelings of impatience, frustration, anger, resentment and jealousy purely to ease our own discomfort and pain. It is not "being honest" to voice every thought that pops into our head. This is not honesty, it is pain avoidance!

  • Separate Thyself

    in Christianity

In Genesis 14, Abram and Lot have decided to separate.  The separation was ordained by God and spoken to Abram by God in Genesis 12.  Abram immediately chose to part from his home with Lot.  Separation has its place in the cycle of patience because separation is a circumstance that causes discomfort, pain and stress, but subdues our own will as opposed to God's will.  God will have his way no matter what!  God ordains obedience as part of the fulfillment of His promises.  Obedience was brought about by a circumstance by God so that the cycle of patience could be completed.  Praise God for separation which causes obedience!

Morning Moments With Maia- Joe Hoare on Renewing Your Zest for Life

    in Self Help

Maia Aziz P.S.W., C.L.Y.L., writes and speaks on living a life of love and laughter. President-Elect of The Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor, Maia is joined each week on Morning Moments With Maia...Conversations of Love and Laughter by an eclectic lineup of guests who live their lives with love and laughter and work to help others do the same.

This week, laughter coach and author of Awakening the Laughing Buddha Within, Joe Hoare, joins Maia all the way from the U.K. for a conversation about the mind-body connection and how to get out of your own way to renew your Zest for Life and Be More Dophin. Joe reminds us that all of us always know what our next step needs to be. We just need to stop obscuring it and allow ourselves to live IN the moment, not FOR the moment. Feeling discomfort in our lives is an invitation to change. It's "bonkers" not to accept this invitation and switch our default setting to Joyfulness.

Communicating in truth - the challenges of self-communication

    in Spirituality

We have spent a lot of time on communication and how the most important person to learn to communicate with is yourself. Yes,  you need to be brutally honest with yourself, and that does not mean that you should beat yourself up. It means when you are thinking about an invitation to participate, whether it is directly about you or one of your family or friends, you must talk to yourself like you do when you are sharing secrets about you to that special person that you can share anything with. When it comes to those deep secrets, it should really be you first, then share with others. Today we'll talk about not only the value of communicating truthfully, but what kind of things might get in the way of doing so...

are there words that might trigger discomfort?
    do 'titles' intimidate us?
how does our judgement or opinion get in the way of seeing the truth?
does the way we feel give us clues?

Bring your questions to the conversation with Delrae and Mary K from the Life Learning Center of Self and let's bring you into an honest relationship with SELF!
