World Footprints takes you on a unique journey as we explore the life and work of a paleontologist. We'll travel through Montana’s Missouri River Country to search for dinosaur bones and we'll spend time to pan for gold. First, we’ll go in search of Carl the Dinosaur with the help of Dave Trexler and Sue Frary of the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum and Field Station as they take us digging for dinosaur bones. We’ll introduce you to Brenda Koss, whose family-owned ranch has produced some major dinosaur fossils, including one discovered by her daughter Kennedy. Then it’s off to Zortman, an interesting gold rush era town nestled in Montana’s Little Rocky Mountains that’s filled with lot of character and characters alike, and we’ll learn about this quirky place from one of the town’s resident entrepreneurs, John Kalal.
This week, Lisa Randall talks about “Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs”; Alexandra Alter has news from the publishing world; Louisa Lim discusses five new memoirs about fleeing North Korea; and John Williams has best-seller news. Pamela Paul is the host.
World Footprints travels through Eastern Montana and explores the history and diversity of Big Sky Country's eastern border. Today we'll fulfill a "need for speed" when we go drag car racing at Phillips County Motor Sports Dragstrip in Malta with racing champions Shaun and Dillion Carnahan. We'll travel along the vast landscape of the Hammond Ranch where some of the most significant dinosaur discoveries have been made. From Malta we'll head south to Billings and go behind the scenes at the Dino Lab where prehistoric creatures are restored fossil-by-fossil. Finally, we'll visit the elegant Moss Mansion former home to Billings founder Preston Boyd Moss. We'll learn how Moss' vision for Billings and his world travels influenced the city's growth and his home's design.
