SORT BY Relevancy
The Justice Department will open a civil rights investigation into policing practices in Ferguson, Mo., Attorney General Eric Holder announced Thursday. The move marks the Obama Administration’s most forceful step to address racial strife in the mostly African-American St. Louis suburb, where a police officer shot and killed an unarmed black teen on Aug. 9.
Ferguson activists and community leaders say they are welcoming the investigation, saying the practice of racial profiling by police was widespread in the community long before department veteran Darren Wilson shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown. The incident sparked days of protests and a heavy police crackdown.
But should DOJ have stepped in? We discuss it..
On January 8, the United States Department of Justice and Department of Education announced the release of the first-ever joint guidance on student discipline. The guidance provides information to schools and school districts about their obligations under the law to eliminate and prevent racial discrimination in the way that they discipline students.
My guests, Shaheena Simons, Deputy Chief of the Educational Opportunities Section of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice, and Jonathan Stith, Executive Director of the Alliance for Educational Justice, will talk about the guidance and why its release is such a critical moment for education equity.
Host Allison R. Brown is a civil rights attorney and President of Allison Brown Consulting (ABC), which creates education equity plans and promotes equity in education in compliance with federal civil rights law.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Department of Justice has been using Cessna aircraft equipped with Stingray-like devices called Dirtboxes that act as fake cell phone towers. The devices are used like the Stingray units to capture data from the cell phones of supposed "targets." It's clear that many innocent Americans phone data is being snapped up at the same time.

What is a Citizen Review Board? It is to serve as an independent civilian oversight agency to review complaints of misconduct against polices officers and to review internal investigations done by the Police department
The Board is composed entirely of civilian volunteers whose purpose is to make objective determinations on the merits of every case and respect the rights of both officers and complainants.
CRB members may recommend disciplinary action, if findings show that misconduct occurred, or may recommend additional training or changes in existing policy where warranted.
The Excessive Militarization of American Policing
All across the country, heavily armed SWAT teams are raiding people’s homes in the middle of the night, often just to search for drugs. It should enrage us that people have needlessly died during these raids, that pets have been shot, and that homes have been ravaged.
Our neighborhoods are not warzones, and police officers should not be treating us like wartime enemies. Any yet, every year, billions of dollars’ worth of military equipment flows from the federal government to state and local police departments. Departments use these wartime weapons in everyday policing, especially to fight the wasteful and failed drug war, which has unfairly targeted people of color.
As our new report makes clear, it’s time for American police to remember that they are supposed to protect and serve our communities, not wage war on the people who live in them.
The Expanding Federal Police Power
Congress should reject all new proposals to make existing state crimes federal crimes repeal all federal criminal laws that address conduct that takes place solely in one state

Meanwhile, back on earth, Will, Ruby Q and Piccolo pursue their dreams but experience nightmares. They now realise what the Phoenix knew all along - it's not climate change ruining the planet so much as greedy, corrupt adults such as those working for the Company of Dekaydence, under the control of the ruthless Lord di'Abalo. And then there's Colin, a wild crazy liz'oid addicted to tomato ketchup, that makes the metal critters, the haggoids, Cromarty and Ross, look like cuddly toys.
