    Decadence, Decency & Denzel Washington!

    in Movies

In a laid back lazy Sunday afternoon conversation at the Scurv Sanctuary, we shared a wonderful conversation about actor Denzel Washington which started with his outstanding role in the movie "Flight" which focused on his character's fight with drug and alcohol addiction as well as his denial to face the fact that he had a huge problem.

We spoke on how society has evolved for the worst and where we stand as a people in the year 2014.

Interesting exchange indeed and we would love to hear your feedback, thoughts and comments to continue such an important dialogue.

Lee Daniels: It Was Denzel Who Made ‘The Butler’ Sing

    in Entertainment

How do you know you’ve made it big in Hollywood—we mean, really, really big? One measure would be when Denzel Washington stops over your house to help punch up your script. And for free, no less. So we can pretty much agree that Lee Daniels has arrived big time. In 2001, after an unlikely career that took him from nursing-agency owner to casting director to talent-agency owner, he produced Monster’s Ball, which won its star, Halle Berry, an Academy Award. Next he directed Precious, another Oscar darling, which snagged a statue for comedian Mo’Nique. Then came The Butler, co-starring Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey, which had uncredited assistance behind the scenes from one of cinema’s more powerful voices. “Denzel and I are friends and he was helping me with the sctipt,” Lee tells us. “I think we joked around about what would you do if you were playing the character? But at the time he couldn’t do it because he was unavailable anyway. Denzel is a dear friend of mine and he helped me incredibly with the story.”

Antoine Fuqua: Denzel Washington’s Just Your Average Joe

    in Entertainment

Don’t tell Antoine Fuqua that Denzel Washington’s playing, well, Denzel Washington in their new flick together, The Equalizer. Instead, the director—who made his name making Denzel over as a bad boy in 2001’s Training Day—wants you to feel that his superstar collaborator is nothing more than a working stiff. “He’s reluctant hero. He’s a guy who has issues—OCD, post-traumatic stress, he can’t sleep at night. He’s not slick in any way,” Antoine tells Keeping It Reel with Film Gordon correspondent Wilson Morales. “When we did a dress rehearsal, and we were just tryin’ on shirts and stuff, he walked out and my cameramen were standin’ there waitin’ for Denzel and—literally—they didn’t know he’d already walked out was standin’ there waitin’ for us. They didn’t recognize him. He’s a cameleon.” The Equalizer, which opens Sept. 26, tells the story of a former black ops commando who faked his death for a quiet life, but comes out of his retirement to rescue a young girl.

Too many crosses at Catholic School - Prison Perks

    in Politics

Hr1  Lawsuit says too many crosses Catholic University for Muslims to exercise free religion! Really!

John LeBoutillier talks about Obama, Putin, Kerry, Iran talks, and... Hillary Clinton, can anyone beat her in 2016?

Robert Woodson, founder and president of the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise asks, if all whites tomorrow were to move to Canada & Europe... how it would affect the black on black crime rate & poverty? It doesn't pay to eradicate poverty. There are businesses built around poverty. They need the poor for profit.

Hr2   Professor says, if you're a white male, you don't deserve to live. Do you think he deserves to keep his job shaping the young minds of the next generation? There is a cost to free speech.

Prison perks... healthcare and now, free college. Maybe we should take care of our veterans first!

Michelle Obama, take note: Denzel Washington delivers commencement speech saying #1 priority is to "Put God first!" and “Don’t just aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference.” Now THAT's an inspirational commencement speech. KUDOS, Denzel!

Chief Executives magazine's annual rankings of the Best States for Business was dominated by states with Republican governors...again.

Hr3 Christian slaughterhouses in Muslim dominated countries.

Husband had to call 911 after botched abortion because clinic workers didn't do it. Can you imagine if he hadn't been there? What if that had been your teenage daughter?

Student failed for refusing to conform to professor's anti-Christian bias.

Gay alliance bashes State University of New York-Stony Brook for hosting debate with conservative Christian author. Aren't schools of higher learning supposed to welcome open discourse and debate on ALL sides of an issue? Not so much anymore.

AYG Chats with Black Farmer & Homesteader Denzel Mitchell

    in Food

Denzel Mitchell, founder of 5 Seeds Farm, is my favorite farmer ever.  I chat with him about growing from a small city farm to a multiple plot, urban and suburban farm with a 50-person CSA, the cultural and historical legacies of Black farming and homesteading, food security, educating the general public and young people on the importance of their food sources, what he and his family will be having on their Thanksgiving table and why me eating a peach right off of a 5 Seeds Farm northeast Baltimore tree a few years ago on my Amplify Baltimore television show is still a popular topic conversation.
