Toronto Raptors should trade for David Lee

    in Basketball

The Toronto Raptors are flush with salary cap space. Yes, they need to re-sign Sixth Man award winner Lou Williams, and they'll likely need to give him a significant raise after what he gave them.

But what about getting unrestricted free agents to come to Toronto? It has never been an easy thing to do (last summer's Kyle Lowry re-signing notwithstanding), and Masai Ujiri is going up against some awfully heavy hitters when it comes to going after the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge and his ilk.

If he strikes out on all of the big names, what might Plan B be?

Here's my suggestion: Go get David Lee, who the Golden State Warriors are trying to trade. He is a former All-Star, he is the consummate professional, and he can score in the low block better than Amir Johnson, Chuck Hayes, Patrick Patterson, James Johnson or any of the other power forwards Toronto used last season.

The Warriors have already told Lee they will attempt to move him, and Golden State knows it will not get equal value in return. What is important to the Warriors is ridding themselves of Lee's salary to keep themselves out of luxury tax territory. A future second-round pick might be all it takes to get it done, and adding Lee would give the Raptors a one-year rental on a solid player while keeping intact their cap space for the bonanza summer of 2016.

I tossed that idea at Toronto radio listeners this morning on Sportsnet 590-The Fan, and I also explained the strange free agent status of Atlanta's Paul Millsap -- and how that could be an option, too.

The Racial Divide: With “Southern Rites” Filmmaker, Gillian Laub

    in Culture

Gillian Laub is a photographer/artist/filmmaker of the critically acclaimed HBO documentary, “Southern Rites”.  Gillian Laub first visited Mt. Vernon, Georgia, in 2002 to photograph the community’s segregated homecoming celebrations. Seven years later, after multiple visits to the area, the New York Times Magazine ran a photo essay, “A Prom Divided,” that documented Georgia’s Montgomery County High School’s racially segregated prom. Not surprisingly, the series generated national outrage that lead to the integration of the proms.

As the film unraveled, there became more to the intended story of this small town in Georgia…

A 22 year old black man, Justin Patterson, was shot and killed by Norman Neesmith, a white man who was living nearby in Toombs County.

With continued tensions of racial divide, this tragedy changed the course of Gillian’s documentary.

On this episode, we’re going to sit down with Gillian Laub to discuss her amazing film, “Southern Rites” and what she sees as a future for this country when it comes to the Racial Divides that affect us nationwide, and not just in the south.

    Martavis Bryant Groundhog Day

    in Sports

Mind of Mansion Podcast Episode 138: Matt Kelley @fantasy_mansion reminds listeners that Martavis Bryant's athletic profile and his rookie season per target productivity were shocking similar to Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson.

No going far enough to satiate the bloodlust of the show's buzzard army.

Fantastic bird sounds: blue jay, osprey, chicken, mourning dove, owl, duck.

Buying skill position players on the haunted San Francisco 49ers franchise.

When did 48 targets in half a season on a less than 50% snap share become enough to judge a player's ability?

Ignoring Martavis Bryant's Clemson resume while continue to celebrate Sammy Watkins' production at Clemson exemplifies confirmation bias in fantasy football.

Martavis Bryant's ascending valuation a year removed from the collapse of Cordarrelle Patterson and Justin Hunter is amazing.
