Stephen Hoag, PhD, will join us the second half of our show. He was raised in Wallingford, Connecticut, and has been a teacher and education administrator for almost 40 years. He is a husband, father, brother, friend, teacher, coach and son, but his journey turned when he become a care partner for his mother. Today he will share his story and tell us about his book, "A Son's Handbook - Bringing Up Mom with Alzheimer's/Dementia."
A Son’s Handbook is the ten-year journey of a son as he cared for his mother with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Compelled by the love for his mother, author Stephen W. Hoag provides a tender, dramatic and often humorous account of the unforgettable years he shared with his mother as they faced the difficulties associated with her disease. His chronicled anecdotes and articulated moments will bring comfort to family members and care givers who must complete the daily tasks and overcome the obstacles accompanying the care of those afflicted with this illness.

Dave Gahary moderates a debate between Count One, an alias, and Jim Fetzer, who tackle the controversy surrounding the Sandy Hook Elementary School event.
The debate will follow this format:
The moderator will ask questions to each participant where they will have no more than five minutes to present their argument and evidence. If less than the allotted time is used, it will be set aside for a less structured discussion towards the end. At the end of the debate, each participant will have no more than five minutes for their closing statement. Personal or unnecessary attacks will be met with the mute button.
If there are callers, they will be taken during the final hour.
Count One is the alias of a man who has stirred enough controversy over his comments that he feels threatened and refuses to reveal his identity. He will argue that the Sandy Hook Elementary School event was an actual mass-casualty incident.
James H. Fetzer, a former Marine Corps officer, has published widely on the theoretical foundations of scientific knowledge, computer science, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and evolution and mentality.
Jim is a contributor and editor at Veterans Today and hosts a radio show, "The Real Deal", M/W/F
Jim will argue that the Sandy Hook Elementary School event was a staged drill.
Change My Mindset, Change My Life. Say that phrase three times and pay attention to your thoughts. If you repeat the title of our program at least three times to yourself, your next few thoughts will be to wonder how you could possibly change your Mindset. What is Mindset? A Mindset is a set of beliefs, assumptions and methods held by individuals or groups that are so powerful, that those individuals or groups refuse to deviate from them. This causes people to stay in place, despite their expressed desire to grow and change. Each Sunday at 6:30 PM ET, invest just 15 minutes of your time as I share my 30 + years of experience at helping individuals and teams change their Mindset, and in so doing, help them to acheive what most people thought was impossible.

If you have experienced some sort of traumatic incident in your life, whether it be the loss of a loved one, domestic violence, sexual abuse, natural disasters even.l.Emotional and psychological trauma is the result of extraordinarily stressful events that shatter your sense of security, making you feel helpless and vulnerable in a dangerous world.Traumatic experiences often involve a threat to life or safety, but any situation that leaves you feeling overwhelmed and alone can be traumatic, even if it doesn’t involve physical harm. It’s not the objective facts that determine whether an event is traumatic, but your subjective emotional experience of the event. The more frightened and helpless you feel, the more likely you are to be traumatized. There is something called "Traumatic Incident Reduction" that can be helpful.Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) is a brief, memory-based, therapeutic intervention for children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced crime-related and/or interpersonal violence, war, disasters, torture, childhood abuse, neglect, emotional abuse, traumatic bereavement, or other severe or shocking events. The program is designed to resolve symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and low expectancy of success (i.e., low self-efficacy) by integrating dissociated cognitive and emotional aspects of traumatic memory. Join me and my special guest speaker as we discuss trauma here on The Serenity Show live at 9pm CT at 646-929-0421 and/or www.blogtalkradio.com/ritahodges. Audience participation is encouraged. The only radio show dedicated to the issues of loss and grief.
This week's show will focus on grief and the adolescent. Whan a loss happens in a family it is important to realize that different members of the family grieve differently.
Because adolesence is a time of cognitive, emotional and social change for a teen, grief can be especially difficult.
Our conversation will look at ways teens can express their grief as well as how their expressions directly relate to the changes they are experiencing
With mental illness affecting roughly 1 in 17 Americans, this 8-week series targets the way our nation and its churches confront the conversation surrounding mental illness and is designed to clarify broad misperceptions and shed a new light on the topic - Biblically and psychologically. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that one in four adults, approximately 57.7 million Americans experience a mental health disorder in a given year.
The series includes professionals who discuss such topics as the six stages of grief, chemical imbalances, the effects of mental health disorders on a child's education, and suicide. Additional discussions include pastors, leadership and members within the church who suffer from mental illness. The workshop is hosted by Pastor Seneca who leads the discussion utilizing Biblical references of mental illness. Reference John 9.
The workshop series also includes featured guests, psychiatric doctors, therapists, couples, teachers and families that have encountered and live within mental illness circumstances.
This show we will listen to a video clip by Pastor of ATLAH Worldwide, the Honorable James Manning. He makes some serious indictments against we called Black (negro) Americans and our love for those who abuse and exploit us and how they are able to get us to support them no matter how outlandish, cut throat, ridiculous and unscruplous the celebrity figure who we now idolize may be. I must agree with Pastor Manning that there is something seriously wrong with the cognitive thinking skills of Black men and Black women when it comes to those they choose to be their leaders are concerned. On my show; What Makes Black Women Addicted To Going To Church aired just two dayw ago. I was explaining the dysfunctional and lecherous type of relationship Black women here in America have trained themselves to have with their men and males that can only be described as something similar to the Pimp and Hoe relationship shown in so many of the Blaxploitation films of the early 70's. Somehow these very skewed and damaging images and examples of male, female union and interaction seem to have been permanently seered into the consciousness and sub consciousness of those called Black African Americans.

Tonights featured guest will be Angelika Krohn, creator of the “The Power of Play” workshops for teachers. “The Power of Play and giving Form to Feelings” is about Theater games to enrich children’s cognitive learning in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Angelika Krohn conducts workshops for teachers and parents that are interested in more creative forms of learning through play. Angelika has a BA in Theatre from the University of British Columbia Canada and taught developmental drama in the schools of London Ontario where she was awarded a Canada Council grant for her thesis, “The Power of Play.” Angelika’s concern was not to make kids into actors but rather to help them discover who they were, to build character, courage, curiosity and a sense of confidence within their social environment.

This is one of the most challenging questions we ALL have when we wake up to Reality and see that the world is a maze with countless corridors, with many rooms with doors to new passages in the maze and countless trap doors and dead ends.
We wrestle inwardly with ourselves trying to digest it all when we wake up and learn most everything we were taught were LIES that we had once believed to be true but were NOT.
This creates a great identity crisis and void within us we hide and try to cope with but it never goes away.
So tonight we will look at this and where to go and what to do along the way.
