Chris Algieri was reportedly in great physical shape before the first day of training camp began. Algieri told Tha Boxing Voice, “Camp is to get better not to get into shape, so I showed up in phenomenal shape. We didn’t have to focus on the conditioning aspect of it. We got to focus on strategy and game plan, and also doing good work in sparring.”
Algieri trains year round, and believes his full potential is yet to be unlocked. He claims there is always room for improvement, even after the Pacquiao fight.
Tim Lane, Algieri’s trainer, has seen his progression first hand. He stated, “The thing about Chris is, he doesn’t get a little better from fight to fight, he gets ten or twenty fights better fight to fight. This is the third camp this year, and his improvements have been amazing.” We will with out a shadow of a doubt be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. When your average doe-eyed, naive boxing card moves to Hollywood with delusions of being an entertaining, enthralling affair, yeah... Usually they fall short, but at least they gave it an honest effort. But this whole Manny Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri business? We knew that was woeful from the get-go. The main event was a mismatch, as were two more of the four-fight card. This week on TQBR Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules ridicule a lot of things about boxing, then look toward brighter pastures with Terence Crawford vs Ray Beltran coming up. It should get interesting, or at least contradictory. Thanks for tuning in!
In the main event, the Siberian Rocky, Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2 with 16 KOs) defended his junior welterweight belt against the undefeated Chris Algieri (19-0 with 8 KOs). Chris Algieri got off the canvas twice in round one, his right eye became a swollen mess, and yet he pulled off the improbable yesterday, beating Ruslan Provodnikov to win the WBO junior welterweight title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn via split decision.
Two judges scored the fight 114-112 for Algieri, meaning they had it eight rounds to four for the challenger, while the third had it 117-109 for Provodnikov, a 9-3 score in rounds for the defending titleholder. while HBO's Steve Weisfeld had it 117-109 for Provodnikov. Today we will take calls as always to see how you the viewers seen this fight? We will touch on news and notes and bring you the best 3 hours of your life this fathers day sunday. so happy Fathers day to all you dads, grab a beer and join us as we talk some boxing. remember we are always looking for new writers if your interested email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to set something up. WBO Welterweight Champion Chris Algieri stops by Team LeftJab Boxing Radio to go over the latest on his upcoming mega fight against Manny Pacquiao in China on November 22.Algieri has been in a media whirlwind the last few weeks promoting the fight and has not missed a step training nonstop as he always does before a fight.Algieri talks about the strategy needed to beat Manny as well as the difference in training for this fight in China and the announced VADA testing for this fight. With less than two months to go, Algieri is already in tip top form and ready to shock the world again and change the boxing landscape again.
Despite usual curmudgeonry (nobody that WE know), boxing is threatening to make good on its promise -- NAY -- its loose, non-binding, un-notarized agreement to end the year strong. Good fights are coming from surprising places, even. Heavyweights, if you can believe it. This week on TQBR Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Queensberry Rules' Patrick Connor welcome BWAA member and author Brin-Jonathan Butler to run the gauntlet. Who knows where the wind will take us? Butler's interview with Mike Tyson? Wladimir Klitschko's fun KO of Kubrat Pulev? An HBO Latino card (Remember those?)? Manny Pacquiao vs Chris Algieri... and Avocados? THE PPV UNDERCARD??????? We may even throw soome Nathan Cleverly vs Tony Bellew II in there. Thanks for tuning in!
Oh, boxing. Oh, controversy. Funky happenings seem to follow boxing around like some type of Remora, feeding off the crumbs that fall by the wayside, sometimes consuming it whole. By the way, a Remora is one of those fish that kicks it with sharks all the time. That said, we have a new WBO junior welterweight belt-holder, and discussion of the fight that produced it is in order. Some can't seem to grasp the injustice of Chris Algieri's split decision win over Ruslan Provodnikov, others feel it was a close fight and the decision went the correct way. Bad Left Hook's James Foley and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules will weigh in with their absolute final, totally legit and 100% dead on opinions, which are certified awesome by minutes of sobriety. Also up for grabs: Demetrius Andrade's win over Brian Rose, and this coming weekend's card which includes Robert Guerrero vs Yoshihiro Kamegai, Gary Russell Jr vs Vasyl Lomachenko and Devon Alexander vs Jesus Soto Karass. Thanks for tuning in!
