Brooklyn-native Will Downing has cultivated a faithful audience worldwide with his sonorous baritone voice, gallant charm, easygoing sense of humor and sincerely engaging stage presence. He is also often called upon as a featured special guest on recordings and in concert with peers such as Bob Baldwin, Gary Taylor, Jonathan Butler, Maysa, Chante’ Moore, Brian Culbertson and Marion Meadows. His 1992 duet “Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This” with Rachelle Ferrell is among the most dynamic, sophisticated jazzy soul pairings of all time. This year he placed lucky #21 out of 100 on respected international music website Soul Tracks’ “Greatest Male Soul Singers of All-Time” poll.
Beyond the music, Downing is a published photographer with one coffee table book, “Unveiled Series I” (2005) and a follow-up soon to come. He is a passionate and purposed spokesperson for the American Stroke Association, often hosting a charity bowling event of his creation, “Strike Against Stroke,” to raise funds towards awareness and education in the disproportionately affected African American community. The American Heart Association officially recognizes Downing as a Celebrity Ambassador. Closer to home, Downing battled and beat the chronic muscle inflammation disease polymiositis over the course of several years, beginning in December 2006 – a hard-won triumph that has given him a new lease and outlook on life.

Formed in 1978, by The King of Punk Funk, Rick James, The Original Sto...ne City Band served as Rick's exclusive recording and touring band from the beginning and through the height of his career. They were responsible for cranking out the memorable sounds to timeless hits such as “You and I”, “Super Freak”, “Mary Jane”, “Bustin’ Out”, “Ghetto Life”, “Fire and Desire”, The Temptations’ “Standing on the Top”, The Mary Jane Girls’ “All Night Long”, “Boys”, “In My House” and many, many more.
This legendary band not only have released their own albums under Motown's Gordy Label, but for more than two decades, have provided the sounds that have been heard on recordings and tours with Rick James, MC Hammer, Teena Marie, The Temptations, Eddie Murphy, The Mary Jane Girls, Smokey Robinson, New Edition and Bobby Brown just to name a few.
Their musical performances can be seen on The Grammy’s, The American Music and Soul Train Awards, as well as appearances on the Arsenio Hall, Tonight with Jay Leno and Lopez Tonight Shows, Saturday Night Live, Dick Clark's Rockin New Years Eve, and many more. Countless samplings are used by many of today’s Hip Hop artists. On any given day, you can watch a TV commercial or listen to your Radio and you will hear that distinctive signature sound of Rick James’ Original Stone City Band. …Pulsating bass lines and irresistible rhythms!!
Eddie Lanier was born in New Jersey, home to funk giants Parliament-Funkadelic and Kool N The Gang, but it was Sly & The Family Stone that turned me out and made me a funkateer for life. Bought my first guitar after hearing Sex Machine. Played guitar with a high school rock band that did a few SATFS songs. Later played in the back-up band for some singers in an organization run by Martha Taylor (wife of Richard Taylor singer with The Manhattans). Many of those musicians went on to work with Kool N The Gang.
Maintained my love for SATFS and all related music throughout all these years. Throughout those years, I met and became friends with many of the original Family Stoners. For the last ten years or so, I frequently hook up with them mostly at the east coast shows.
These days, I run the Sly & The Family Stone FB page which now has over 5000 members as well as the current Family Stone FB page.
I am associate producer for the upcoming Sly & The Family Stone Convention in Oakland.
Keeping the legacy of Sly & The Family Stone legacy alive...forever!
