The long-awaited changes to the United Kingdom’s comparatively liberal online regime will take effect later this year. Under the new regulations, all remote gambling operators targeting the U.K. market will be required to hold a license from the U.K. Gambling Commission. For the online gambling industry, these changes will have major ramifications, CEM contributors Julian Harris and Tom Grant explain in their update on online gaming reform in the United Kingdom.

This summary installment of the Eilers-Fantini Quarterly Slot Survey reveals insights and information for the first quarter of 2014 from key purchasing agents at a number of North American commercial and tribal casinos, several racino/VLT operators, as well as seven international participants. The report features record-level responses from survey participants collectively operating 316 gaming venues with some 330,424 total slot machines or equivalent gaming devices.

The next frontier of unregulated Internet gaming has arrived in the form of binary options and Internet sweepstakes cafés. Legislators and law enforcement are moving to outlaw both, but they will have to remain vigilant as others will no doubt continue to test the boundaries of what constitutes illegal gambling activity.
