Bruce Davis Ph.D has written a beautifully stirring book of historical fiction about how two legendary Saints, Francis and Clare of Assisi might approve of Pope Francis. The book, The Love Letters: Saint Francis and Clare of Assisi Meet Pope Francis is something anyone, regardless of their religious affliiation will find though provoking and it may very well find those in the Catholic Church feeling the hope and support that better times are ahead for the Church as well as the world as a whole. The Love Letters with Guest Bruce Davis: Dr Jenn welcomes best selling author and spiritual psychologist Bruce Davis to share his latest book, The Love Letters: Saint Francis and Saint Clare of Assisi Meet Pope Francis is the second book by Bruce Davis to have St. Francis of Assisi at its heart. As one of the world’s leading secular authorities on the inner life of the revered saint, Davis--who for many years resided in Assisi--is ideally suited to retrace these steps from a fictional standpoint. But he does so with a purpose—to shed light on whether the new namesake Pope can really renew the first Francis’ promise of a compassionate and humble church that protects the poor and underserved.

This month, Suzane welcomes special guest, Bruce Davis.
Bruce is the author of Simple Peace – the Inner Life of St Francis, The Heart of Healing, Monastery Without Walls, My Little Flowers, and The Calling of Joy and, most recently, Love Letters: Saint Francis and Saint Clare of Assisi Meet Pope Francis. As one of the world’s leading secular authorities on the inner life of the revered saint, Davis - who for many years resided in Assisi - is ideally suited to retrace these steps from a fictional standpoint. But he does so with a purpose - to shed light on whether the new namesake Pope can really renew the first Francis’ promise of a compassionate and humble church that protects the poor and underserved.

Through the years, Bruce studied and lived with spiritual teachers in India, Philippines, Germany and Indonesia. For many years, he and Ruth led a program of taking teenagers from one of America's wealthiest communities into the poorest neighborhood of San Francisco to give food to people living in the streets.

Bruce Davis, Ph.D. was trained as a psychologist but discovered early that true happiness is not possible without a meaningful spiritual life. Through the years he traveled and lived in many cultures in different parts of the world. But it was in Assisi, Italy, the historic home of Saint Francis and Saint Clare, that he found a peace and inner path which seemed universal in its language and presence.
After years of bringing groups to Assisi, Bruce and his wife, Ruth, decided to live in Assisi. In the spirit of Saint Francis, they created The Assisi Retreat Center with altars to all the world’s major religions. Their center was given an official blessing by Pope John Paul II. The Assisi Retreat Center was listed as one of the top ten meditation retreats in the world by Travel and Leisure Magazine. More recently CNN listed the center again as one of the top ten meditation centers in the world.
After many years of leading retreats, Bruce found the main ingredients for personal transformation included spending time in silence, nature, and heartfulness meditation. The peace and quiet of silence helps people to discover an inner presence in the heart that is lost by many in our busy world. Since creating the Assisi Retreat Center, Bruce and Ruth have started Silent Stay, a retreat center near Napa, California.
Bruce is the author of several books including: The Magical Child Within You, The Heart of Healing, Monastery Without Walls, My Little Flowers, The Calling of Joy, and Simple Peace-The Spiritual Life of St. Francis of Assisi. Bruce is also a frequent contributor to the Huffington Post. For more information about Bruce’s and Ruth’s current activities visit their website at:www.SilentStay.com.

I call these qualities ‘muscles of the heart.’ Entering into silence is like a gentle aerobic workout, exercising our heart muscles, reaffirming the best of life.” This interview originally aired on Empower Radio.
