A dynamic and powerful virtuoso with a soothing touch, Ali Caldwell's voice is as thrilling as it is comforting. This is contemporary R&B/soul music that inspires a sense of nostalgia. With whispers that climb into full-throttle belting and back, Ali delivers emotional swings that pick you up, spin you around, plant you firmly back on your feet --- and then repeat, with ease. Jazz notes and meandering harmonies punctuate her work, and her church-gospel background fuels pop sensibilities that provide intensity, conviction, control, and polish. Singer-songwriter Ali Caldwell may be well on her way to accomplishing her dreams. Ali recently released her debut EP “Heart Of Ballads” and finished an international 3 city, 23 show tour as an independent artist (with the help of her imprint 2MaroMusicTM/ 2MaroMedia Inc., which she is also a partner in). Having felt a level of accomplishment, this entrepreneur says she is just getting started. She vows to keep innovating and share her gift with others, spearheading a movement called NoMajorZoneTM — a motivational movement catering to the independent artist. She is determined to show the world that an independent artist can achieve a major level of success through hard work, dedication and consistency...without the help of a “Major Label”. Born and raised in Woodbridge, New Jersey with roots in New Brockton, Alabama, Ali Caldwell fell in love with music through the recordings of Brandy, Tamia, Anita Baker, Beyonce, and Faith Evans. As an eclectic lover of music, she would also listen to Yolanda Adams, Pink, N’Sync, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette. Honing a diverse musical palette, Ali was able to develop a distinct writing style, sound, and vocal ability in conjunction with a mesmerizing stage performance.

#BelmontRadio Dawn Richard Sounds Off On Brandy Comparisons, & More Hot Topics

    in Entertainment

For many, if not everyone, the statements above are simply facts of life.

Unfortunately, Dawn Richard seems to have been partial to a little fiction recently when she claimed that she didn’t understand why so many “black people” compare her vocal stylings to those of her R&B sibling Brandy. In Dawn had this to say about Ms. Norwood:

I grew up loving Imogen Heap and Bjork. And one of my favorite female voices to this day is Alanis Morissette. Those voices really did something for me, growing up to me they sounded like cognac and cigar smoke, they had these cool tones that worked well with rock and alternative music.  As far as what I do organically, I just go in and whatever feels good, feels good I don’t force it. Leads and adlibs are cool but my favorite thing to do when I’m in the studio is backgrounds. I can go on and on for days, there’s this sense of peace and chanting. Like an army of bad motherfuckers always behind me, like a 1000 people in believing me and 1000 people behind me every time doing these counter chants which are so African, so Creole and so New Orleans.

People want so badly for there to be Brandy-isms. I didn’t know about Brandy until college, I didn’t grow up on Brandy, I grew up on Bjork and Imogen Heap.  So there was no influence but I respect her. I think she’s one of the dopiest singers we’ve ever had in our time. When I found out about her through my brother, I was like this girls voice is on a whole other level so the respect of Brandy is definitely there. She to me is the vocal bible, but I don’t necessarily take her style or influence into my music. I don’t think of Brandy when I think of the formatting of my music and I think it’s funny that only black people think that.

Filmmaker Jade Justad discusses her film "Creased" - Co-hosted by Al Milbourne

    in Entertainment

    Jade Justad, regarding "Creased":

CREASED is a very personal film for me and by far the most intimate subject matter I have ever approached as a filmmaker. My inspirations and cinematic references for this film include the aesthetics of the Instagram account of Brandy Melville, the obsessive teenage behavior in “The Bling Ring,” Julie Chen’s story on The Talk and just as importantly the reactions of her co-anchors to her surgery, the close-ups and sensuality of “Blue is the Warmest Color,” the Korean American woman who waxed my bikini line as she told me I had more beautiful eyes than her because I have a crease, the emotional and inventive cinematography of “True Detective,” that guy in college who loved Buddhism when he was sober and racist jokes when he was on the Jack Daniels, the long takes and character driven heart of the “Before Sunset” trilogy, the woman at the Clinique make-up counter that offered tips to open up and “westernize” my eyes when I was thirteen, the youthful humor, verve, and fraying friendships of “Y Tu Mama Tambien,” and that time when I was a teenager and I looked in the mirror and wished a white girl was looking back at me. This film is for that girl. And all the girls like her. ”

J-Dub will bring us his musical guest, of course, and Mr. Hollywood Joel Casey will update us on what's going on in film industry.

The multi-talented Al Milbourne will be co-hosting with me.  Al is an accomplished actor/filmmaker/author who wrote the amazing book "The Cancer Patient".

Dr. Brandy Engler, inside the erotic minds of men (& women)

    in Psychology

Amy Alkon's Advice Goddess Radio: "Nerd Your Way To A Better Life!" with the best brains in therapy and research.

    *"Best Of" replay

What do men want? In bed and out? What do women want? How does this all tie together? (And who’s getting tied up?)

These are just a few of the questions I’ll be asking and sex therapist Dr. Brandy Engler will be answering on tonight’s show.

Dr. Engler is unique in that she opened a sex therapy practice for women -- expecting to slowly get some clients -- and quickly amassed a full list of clients: all men.

Engler and New York Times best-selling biographer David Rensin have just published a fascinating book about her sessions and her insights, The Men On My Couch: True Stories of Sex, Love, and Psychotherapy.

This is your chance to go inside her sessions -- to see into the erotic minds of men. And not pervos or deviants, but regular guys. Men we all know.

Beyond the men, we will also see into the minds of the women having sex with these men -- or refusing to -- and find out why, and what it takes to balance love and eroticism in a relationship.

Join me and all my fascinating guests every Sunday, 7-8 p.m. Pacific Time, 10-11 p.m. Eastern Time, at blogtalkradio.com/amyalkon or subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher.

Please buy my book, the science-based and funny "Good Manners For Nice People Who Sometimes Say F*ck." It's only about $11 new, at Amazon, and every new copy sold helps support me and the work I put into this show. Also it's funny and Library Journal gave it a starred review and called it "highly recommended" (Sept. 15, 2014 issue).
