Publicly Shaming Our Kids – Good Parenting or Emotional Abuse?
Should social media ever be used for disciplining your child?
should children be publicly disciplined? To me, it’s a bit reminiscent of days long ago where there were public floggings and people were put in stocks in front of the whole town. Does the world need to know your child has done something worthy of punishment? Does public embarrassment and humiliation take the place now of course correcting your child in lieu of the good old-fashioned idea of taking away a favorite like the computer or Internet access.. We hear the term "black-on-black crime" quite often on news shows. Like the term "reverse racism," it appears to be a term insinuates something to be an isolated problem when it's in fact something all people experience. All races experience a high rate of race-on-race crime, but why do we not hear the terms "white-on-white crime" or "Latino-on-Latino crime"? Why are black people singled out?
- Is the black-on-black crime rate that much worse than other races?
- Does the media perpetuate these violent rages that apparently runs only in black communities?
- What should leaders do to address it?

Parenting is a hard job, especially in today's society. Government interference, lax laws, unfair "correctional" institutions and the ever-powerful loss of the village has altered the rights and disciplinary options a parent has in raising their children. As a result, a new alternative has been utilized by many parents--humiliating their children via social media outlets such as Facebook and Instagram. This is the method where parents are giving their children ridiculous haircuts on video and sending them to school, or making their underaged children confess on video their real age and expose their forms of punishment on video with their parents narrating the "truth" about their identity on video to inform the world who they are truly dealing with. Perhaps this method was pioneered by the uncle of 16-year-old Michael Taylor,(the man who tried to save his nephew from joining a gang by telling the world on video that his nephew was just a regular kid and then proceeded to spank him on video for the world to see), or perhaps the consistent subliminal fear of arrest or other repercussion by the government fuels it. Whatever the reason, is this method a good one? And should the gvernment then have a right to intervene? Join in tonight with your thought at 10:30 PM by calling 347-327-9967.
