Bring Your A Game: A Discussion on Hustlers and Rappers, and Education

    in Education

I’m Lardy Miss Clardy with an announcement!

Jan. 24th @ 7:30pm PST, bring you’re A Game.  And the topic that day will be about bringing you’re a Game.  A Mario Van Peebles documentary, with Ice Cube, Sean Combs and Spike Lee; private prisons and how it involves the education gap for blacks and Latino youths.

Do rappers and hustlers have education, then why do they end up in jail?

Do rappers and hustlers in the music industry give mixed signals to our youth and young adults about education over rapping and hustling?

Did rappers and hustlers choose to get quick money to pursue their careers, getting money to buy equipment to be a producer or to pay for studio time to be rappers or singers?

Do rappers and hustlers practice what they preach? Are they saying the total opposite of what they preach now days, when they were the same ones that dropped out and went to jail?

Are our youth and young adults influenced by their lifestyles? the good and the bad?

What is the chances to become successful as a rapper and hustler?  Think about Jay-Z and Kanye West and
Floyd Mayweather, did they have an education?  How did they become so successful? What does education got to do with it?

    How can we stop this...?!?!?!

Somebody help me with this subject and bring your A GAME!!!

    Watch this video below.

Samiyyah Saafir-Muhammad was born Jacqueline Glover in New York City in 1951. After spending her early years in foster care, moving four times before the age of three, she settled in with her aunt, following her father’s passing.
While still in elementary school Samiyyah took an interest in helping other students do well, joining “The Future Teachers’ Club” in the fifth grade. As a high school student, Samiyyah became aware her people’s struggle for freedom—witnessing civil rights demonstrations, protests, assassinations and riots—and decided she wanted to help somehow.  It was in this atmosphere that she went off to Northeastern University in Boston where she majored in Education. Her stay there was short-lived, however, as she was introduced to the teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad and thereafter joined the Nation of Islam. Within the Nation of Islam’s Muhammad University, Samiyyah underwent educational training and worked as a teacher’s assistant.
Since 2005, Samiyyah has had the privilege of serving as the Directress at Muhammad University of Islam in Atlanta, which serves students from Pre-K to the eighth grade. She has been blessed to carry on the 84-year educational tradition, which was started by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and his brave followers in the 1930’s.
A widow after 35 years of marriage, Samiyyah presently enjoys the blessing of her and her husband’s nine children: six sons and three daughters, all of whom attended or are attending HBCUs. Samiyyah has been a mother to not only her nine children, but also to her two stepchildren, her nieces and nephews, her eight grandchildren and countless other children and adults in the community who come to her for advice, wisdom and guidance. Affectionately called MamaMiyyah, Samiyyah’s house is never empty

Meet the Women Organizing Marijuana Law Reform & Drug Law Reform Symposiums

    in News

Marijuana legalization measures have been a mixed bag of good and bad for medical marijuana patients. With California most likely to have a legalization initiative on the ballot in 2016, legalization proponents want to work with medical marijuana patients to ensure that their rights are protected under any marijuana legalization initiatives that are on the ballot.

Dale Sky Jones is Director of the Coalition for Cannabis Policy Reform, a California based nonpartisan organization dedicated to ending marijuana prohibition through ballot initiatives, legislative collaboration and public education campaigns. As the shows first guest, Ms. Jones will provide information on the series of roundtable discussions being held in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego and Santa Ana on Jan. 30 and 31. Information on prospects for the 2016 initiatives and how patients can work together to make sure they do not have a negative impact is at the center of these community forums.

Students for Sensible Drug Policy at the University of California at Irvine are sponsoring a symposium on Saturday, Feb. 21 that will bring together experts from the legal, political, and judicial arenas, as well as civil rights activists, harm reduction workers, entrepreneurs, and full-time reform workers for an in-depth look at how U.S. drug policies have affected society, and what lies ahead on the horizon.

The show’s second guest is Lauren Ayn Mendelsohn, coordinator for SSDP at UCI who is also a J.D. Candidate, 2016. She will explain the ins and outs of this important symposium and reveal the names of the invited speakers and participants.
