ONE BILLION RISE: We Rise Beyond Words Live!

    in Women

ONE BILLION RISING is an organization centralized and focuesd upon a global call to women survivors of violence and those who love them to gather safely in community outside places where they are entitled to justice – courthouses, police stations, government offices, school administration buildings, work places, sites of environmental injustice, military courts, embassies, places of worship, homes, or simply public gathering places where women deserve to feel safe but too often do not.  It is a call to survivors to break the silence and release their stories – politically, spiritually, outrageously – through art, dance, marches, ritual, song, spoken word, testimonies and whatever way feels right.

We are going to rise and share our ways we are rising on the radio show on February 14, 2014 at 10a CST.  Tune in and share with us the way you are rising in the 2 hrs time frame that we have.  A chat room will be available for you to share as well; I read the messages on the air.  A call-in number will be provided to survivors who wish to share a brief explaination on how they are rising.

BEYOND WORDS LIVE! is designed for survivors to tell their own stories in their own words.  Join us on Domestic Violence Voices on fb for further conversations on these related issues - http://facebook.com/DomesticViolenceVoices.

BEYOND WORDS LIVE - MEET LAURIE

    in Family

Unbelievable turn of circumstances is a great way to describe Laurie who will be talking to us today. I have been enjoying getting to know Laurie and learning more about what she is doing today with her role at Private Quarters (an organization supporting domestic violence survivors) and part of a documentary in progress called BY A THREAD, as well as her personal experiences involved in domestic violence and why she has been so adamant to advocate for change. She states that she is on a mission to share her story as how she became safe in her own skin, as well as just her story of domestic violence on a whole. There is a certainly level of abuse and violence that women hear about on the news, in the obituaries, the obvious and repeated, daily and nightly abuse; however, there is another level of abuse that is hidden, forgotten about and not on the radar because it may not be thought of as "that bad". At what point does it have to be "bad" to do something about it, after all? What about those less than obvious signs that lead you down a path of abuse and violence that young and mature women don't understand and don't know to look for? Those are the masses we need to reach and educate, speak to and empower! Please join us on May 8th, 2010, at 2pm CST to hear what Laurie has to say to empower all our listeners to changes in our lives.

BEYOND WORDS LIVE - MEET DANIELLE

    in Family

Danielle Joy Linhart writes the FROM DEEP WITHIN - BLIND AND BRUISED book straight from her heart, which makes it very straight to the point; however, she has written in a format that is an easy read, and one that can certainly ressonate with any teen going through any degree of teen dating abuse. Please join me as Danielle shares her story on our show and tells more about her book, of which a portion of the proceeds are going to help the National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline (http://loveisrespect.org)! The last paragraph on her backcover of the book states, "As a survivor, I want to help those being harmed or whos might be harmed, and to educate those who can help prevent a violent relationship. This book has been a path to self-discovery, to close the chapter on that part of my life. I feel as though I have re-lived the abuse all over again. At times, I had to stop writing, but I am glad I continued because there is a chance I will help someone in need." How true! It is hard to write a book about something that was so painful in your life; it is wonderful that Danielle has managed to get past that to share her story. I can't wait to share this guest with you. Chat room will be open for discussion too. :)

BEYOND WORDS LIVE - MEET AUTHOR SHELLY BEACH (June 19, 2010 @ 9a CST)

    in Family

This author wrote the book SILENT SEDUCTION SELF-TALK: CONFORMING DEADLY THOUGHT PATTERNS TO THE WORD OF GOD. Whether or not that you actually believe in God (maybe you just believe in a higher power of some sort), techniques that Shelly Beach puts into play in her book should indeed ressonate with you, or someone you know. It is easy enough to fall victim to the self-talk that we do to ourselves, which leads oftentimes to low self-esteem and gives an abusive personality power and control edge over our lives. We need to empower ourselves to become stronger so that no one takes control of ourselves and allow us to lead the lives that we so richly deserve. Please join me in welcoming Shelly Beach to our show today and feel free to join in the chat during the show.

BEYOND WORDS LIVE - HR 4662 UPDATE FROM ADVOCATE TEAM TO DC (JUNE 5th 2010)

    in Family

A team of advocates will be hitting the streets of Washington DC the last weekend of May 2010. This show is reserved for members/representatives from that team to join us and share with us updates of what they did on their trip to Washington DC to actively solicit support from legislators on the Capitol Hill in hopes to propel this HR4662 to pass this year.

It is important that we get this bill passed to help curtail the outofpocket expenses of lymphedema patients to ensure their abilities to properly maintain and manage their own lymphedema care so that they don't end up having increased healthcare needs, such as treatment of open pressure wounds from lymphedema being inadequately treated or having a lack of ability to properly treat this condition/disease. Be sure to tune in on Saturday, June 5th, at 9a CST for the latest and greatest on this advocacy movement.

BEYOND WORDS LIVE - MEET EMMA WISE

    in Family

More to come about this guest who will share her survival story and talk about trauma & repressed memories.

Emma Wise is the pen name of a woman who was sexually abused as a child. In the years since she tried to kill herself at age 19, she has earned a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees. With the help of therapists, friends and her faith in God, though not organized religion, she has built a life and is married with three step-children and six grandchildren. Now she is 42 years old and she lives in her home town and is currently a social worker for abused and neglected children and a mental health therapist. She is currently working on a memoir of her life story and loves to spend time reading, writing, drawing, target shooting, being outdoors, playing with her grandchildren and traveling. Emma Wise knows first hand how evil can twist and turn a person's life inside out and knows it is a lifelong journey to heal, but a person can live a full life despite the pain and suffering in this world.

"Lost Little Girl" by Emma Wise (c)

"Picture a little girl running, alone, trying to find her way home. She’s six years old. She is running away from her babysitter’s house, carrying a painful secret. She's fleeing the (word omitted) the sitter’s sons shoved at her. And she's fleeing something worse, something that fills her with shame.

Somehow, she finds her house – but the door is locked, and she has no key. She runs to a neighboring house."

BEYOND WORDS LIVE - MEET SUSAN MURPHY MILANO

    in Family

You won't want to miss Susan Murphy Milano taking us through her book, Time's Up, especially with regard to the understanding of the importance of the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit, which will save lives of countless victims. :D http://www.susanmurphymilano.com/ Susan Murphy-Milano is often praised as one of the most dynamic and engaging speakers of our day in the domestic violence prevention field. As an expert in the area of intimate partner violence and the prevention of homicide, Susan has created specific tools and procedures which the abused need to safely leave a violent relationship. Her books, “Defending Our Lives”, “Moving Out, Moving On” and Time’s Up, are considered the “bibles” of how to make the move away from abuse and deal with the many confusing situations surrounding violence prevention, stalking, break-up or divorce. Susan witnessed her father, a decorated Chicago Violent crimes Detective, brutally and violently attack her mother repeatedly. The words “if you leave I will kill you,” turned into reality the night Susan walked into her childhood home and found her mother murdered and her father in the next room dead from a self-inflicted gun-shot wound to the head. Susan vowed then, and has, since the murder-suicide of her parents, carved out a road making changes in the way the world looks at violence in and outside the home. Susan uses humor, passion, and all her years of experience to motivate her audience to become more effective first responders, advocates and professionals in their work to stop family violence. Susan’s quest for justice was instrumental in the passage of the Illinois Stalking Law and the Lauternberg Act. She has been prominently featured in newspapers, magazines, radio and television. Make sure you mark this show on your calendars for Saturday, September 4th, from 9a-10a CST.

Survivor Voice: Survivor2013 #Project1000000Voices Journey Beyond the Ravine

    in Women

    Her Story:

"I started dating a guy in Dec 2012. He told me how his mother past away and his father was a drunk. How his ex was mean to him and everybody gave up on him. Me being a mother felt the need to protect him and show him I was always going to be there. We had a wedding ceremony on 5-4-13 and the abuse physical and mentally started. 5 weeks after that he got really drunk and became angry and extremely violent. On that night as I was trying to calm him down while driving down the road with my 8 year old son in the back seat he had a fit of rage and began to beat the windshield with his fist, then he reached across me and snatched the steering wheel out of my hand and down a 50 ft reven we went. I was cut out by jaws of life and airlifted to the nearest tram a hospital in alabama. When I got there... My advice is, I know your scared and I know what you have been threaten with but if you stand up for yourself in the right way and set your mind to it all things are possible. Call, report, don't hide it, tell everyone you know, get away, you can make it without them!"

A Young Woman’s Story of Survival and Renewal

    in Romance

A woman who has seen death flash before her eyes, but never gave up. A woman who was tortured mentally, verbally and physically for no reason other than being with a man who was selfish and thought the only way to keep her would be to put her through so much pain and to scare her into staying. It worked until she got her strength back that she had when she met him and stood up for what was right. What he didn’t realize is he was only pushing her away and making her stronger for what God had in store. She is now in the process of healing and she believes that reaching out to others, sharing her story and helping those who are in the same situation see that there is hope. She wants to help where help is needed and now volunteers all of her time at a homeless outreach organization. She firmly believes she has found her calling and wants everyone who is, has been or will find themselves in a domestic violence situation to stand up and take their control back and remember that they are VICTORS not VICTIMS.
