WALTER DOMINGUEZ, Latino award winning filmmaker
Being a CTE Teacher in my other life I hear all the time about students who are going to leave high school and immediately make the “Big Time $$$$” in some field of Entertainment and so today I wanted to talk to someone who has actually “been there, done that”. I give full credit for borrowing the show descriptions from my friends at Armando F. Sanchez productions and for the Information Provided by Walter’s Public Relations People
In our fast-paced, chaotic world, it is difficult (if not impossible) to imagine the lives of those who came before us, even just two generations ago. And yet, more than ever, each of us still has a yearning to connect with the past, to better understand those who came before us and made us who we are.
That is the journey undertaken by filmmaker Walter Dominguez in the extraordinary documentary “Weaving the Past: Journey of Discovery.”
As a young man, Dominguez was inspired by his grandfather, Emilio, known as “Tata,” who was one of the most prominent and beloved Mexican Methodist ministers in idyllic Santa Paula in rural Southern California. A community leader who was known for his generous heart and kind spirit, Tata died in 1973. Three decades later, with the generation that knew Tata best quickly dying away, Dominguez picked up his camera to uncover the long-hidden secrets of Tata’s earliest years.
Walter brings to this award-winning film his unique sensibility as a storyteller and his perspective as an American Latino. Walter’s skills are a result of his extensive background as a director, assistant director, 2nd unit director, writer and producer in Hollywood studio features, television series, independent features.
Multi-talented Rachel Mason drops by to discuss The Lives of Hamilton Fish, her award-winning cinema rock opera inspired by a true story. Rachel is a filmmaker, sculptor, songwriter and performer. She has written three operas, recorded ten full-length albums, and performed at numerous art museums and other venues, including the Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art and School of the Arts in Chicago. Winner of the Best Picture Award at the 2014 New England Underground Film Festival, The Lives of Hamilton Fish deals with two men with the same name who died a day apart in 1936. One of them was a serial killer, the other a descendant of one of the most prominent families in New York State. Their obituaries were published together on the front page of a newspaper. Told entirely through songs in the newspaper editor's voice, the story mixes the surreal with historical facts. Film critic Phil Hall calls this independent offering the best movie he's seen during 2014.

#TNT 037: In a world filled with frivolous content, no presence of mind and a shorter attention span. So many film-makers are known to create works that purely entertain their audience with no underlining message (and while that isn't a crime)....others have horned their storytelling craft towards educating and using the lens as their medium for ADVOCACY. And Multiple Award Winning Filmmaker, JETA AMATA is one of those, who understands the impact of telling the right stories to effect change in society, as he continues to use his Art as an awareness platform, to tell the stories of those who have no voice.
