"Special Edition" Interview with the authors of Camouflaged Sisters

    in Military

    Camouflaged Sisters

Some would have you believe that women are the weaker vessel. Granted, some of us may be less physically endowed than some men, but weaker vessel? I cannot agree with that label. Women have made history by showing their strength during challenging times. Often times, it only took one woman to influence a movement or create a world of change for those around her and for generations to come. This strength often comes in times of oppression or as a means of survival. I think of women like Helen Keller, Rosa Parks, Malala and even Oprah Winfrey who broke the mold of ‘normal’ and created immeasurable opportunities for women today. This act of breaking molds, knocking down limitations, and creating opportunities extends even into the military, where women make up nearly 14.5% of the Armed Forces. Women like Cathay Williams broke down barriers that prohibited women from enlisting into the Armed Forces, although she had to pose as a man to get into the Army. Once she was in, however, she broke down the stereotypes that women were not capable of serving in the military. Over time, women have proven themselves to be invaluable members of the Armed Forces. Black women, who have been among the last ethnic/gender group to make significant strides in the military, continue to show themselves worthy of the accolades enjoyed by their male counterparts over the years. These women were among the ‘firsts,’ creating opportunities for generations of Black women, like us, to come behind them and enjoy successful military careers.

Veteran’s Day 2015: Thanks for Serving

    in Lifestyle

Joe Davis, Director of Public Affairs, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Washington Office, sheds light on many of the concerns veterans face and he helps us to understand why the gratitude continues,

Joe keeps it real: he shares real questions and provides real answers!

Above all, Joe reminds us that for generations, the men and women of America’s Armed Forces have put country before self.  On Nov. 11, Veterans Day, our nation honors the contributions of the nearly 22 million veterans living today, and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of liberty and justice.

This Veterans Day, the VFW thanks every Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Airman and Coast Guardsman for their service. And we ask all Americans to say a prayer of thanks for those who are serving far away from family and friends. Without their service and sacrifice, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to cherish our many freedoms for the extraordinary gifts they are.

    Director of Public Affairs

~ The Interpersonal Connection ~ We Honor All Of Our Military

    in Spirituality

Encouraging and Inspirational Words of Wisdom, Spirit and Life. St. 6:63 Our Seventh Year Celebration 2008 ~ 2015 Continues....Lord please give me the wisdom to discern the different seasons of my life and teach me to embrace and acknowledge the new things that you have in store for me because I place my hope and my trust in you knowing that you are behind the scenes working out every detail in my life and in the lives of those connected to me. We Remember, Honor, Salute and Celebrate each and every Veteran on this Veterans Day. We understand that the rights and freedoms we have as Americans are defended each day by the dedicated service of our Armed Forces. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy. November 11 is the day set aside to honor the millions of Americans who have served their country in the Armed Forces, especially those who risked their lives in defense of the United States. They Will Never Know ~ We Will Never Forget ~ 6 And you must think constantly about these commandments I am giving you today. 7 You must teach them to your children and talk about them when you are at home or out for a walk; at bedtime and the first thing in the morning. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (TLB) Lord Help me to remember that like the seasons of the year, Life brings continuous growth and changes. As long as I can remember that, I can look with expectancy to ALL that lies ahead. I can rest in the assurance that You are in control of the Seasons of My Life. My Mother would always say to us, Children “GOD IS IN CONTROL”

When God calls us beyond the lights of family and friends, darkness tries to enter, but our God is brighter. The men and women of the Armed Forces who move away from family to be trained, need our prayers. We are so honored to have brothers and sisters in our lives that are so willing to put their lives on the line to protect our freedom. Let's pray for God's light to always be upon them and that NO weapon formed against them shall prosper. While they battle, let us hold up their arms in the fight.
