And the Rest is History w/ Blacketer

    in Books

For those of you who love historical fiction, And the Rest is History is the show you won’t want to miss.

Historical author Brita Addams hosts an hour-long show on the last Tuesday of each month, starting at 3pm Eastern, 2pm Central. She’ll pick the brain of an author of historical fiction, and try to get them to divulge all the secrets they use to bring us the wonderful stories they write. Join us for an in depth discussion that can range from crafting historicals in a particular time period to what it takes to create something that authentically represents the time period. Authors spend a great deal of their time in the past and we are the lucky recipients of the fiction they write. This show will give readers the opportunity to ask questions and to get to know their favorite authors.

Featured today, author Kirsten Blacketer. Stick her in the middle of a chaotic home with two children, a hyperactive dog, and a camouflage wearing husband, and she can cook and clean with the best of them. Her characters creep forth from the dark recesses of her mind taking their places in the castles and forests built from her words. No simpering heroines linger there with forlorn gazes turned to the horizon, waiting for their Prince Charming. They straighten their spine, arming themselves with blade and bow, prepared to do their part in defense of their honor and destiny. She breathes life into the women she believes our ancestors to be, showing how they lived and loved with passion and grace.

Never bored by the tales still left to tell, she battles the ever sarcastic muse in her quest for romance.

Should All Prisoners Be Released Except Those Who Committed Violent Crimes?

    in Women

Debtors Prison was an institution used by the ruling class in Europe to punish people who could not pay their debts. Living under an oppressive system of high taxes and fines, of course the jails became overcrowded with debtors who could not pay. Many were given the opportunity to work off their debts as "indentured servants," temporary slaves who worked until the debt was paid off. Most were languishing in Europe's overcrowded jails until they were given an opportunity for release. The catch: they had to leave the continent and go and settle what Europeans called "the new world" - America. Many came to America, and the rest is history. But, what happened is that the descendants of those earlier prisoners have recreated the same system in present day America. Many of those incarcerated are serving time simply because they didn't have money. Sometimes people are jailed for unpaid parking tickets causing, unknown to them, a suspended license. Often the "crime" was the sale or use of marijuana (a substance which is now sold legally) and they couldn't pay bail or couldn't pay a good lawyer. Our jails are overcrowded, and prison is just a thinly disguised slave labor business. It's time to stop it. Only violent criminals need to be locked away to protect society while they undergo rehabilitation. Should all other non violent prisoners be released, provided the opportunities to become productive citizens, and honorably pay any debts owed

This historical event was so great that even our Lord Jesus Christ commemorated the event by his appearing in the temple on the Feast of Dedication over one hundred sixty years later. Tonight we examine the spiritual significance of this great celebration and the prophetic meaning to our generation.
