Opening Our Eyes and Creating New Education With Our Hearts

    in Education

Join us this week as Janice welcomes Terry Damlos.  Terry is a seeker of Truth.  For the last fifteen years she has developed herself and assisted others in creating New Education programs for children.  She has four children who chose alternative paths to the traditional educational system.  Terry has a BA in Social Work and a Masters in Education.  Presently she is assisting children who are struggling in traditional schools and teaching Passion Based Learning.

Terry believes from the work that she has done and her present situation, working in the traditional system, that the time has come for New Education programs to be introduced and funded.  Our children are vibrant, intelligent, sensitive Beings who are being exposed to an old system that no longer works.   She is excited that so many others are now seeing this too.  www.teresedamlos.com

Play to Learn, Part I: When will educational games be mainstream resources?

    in Education

Play to Learn, Part I: When will educational games be mainstream instructional resources, or are they already?

What is the role of play for humans? In our rather puritanical society is play a valid method to support learning or does it change the game? Will our cultural norms accommodate gaming or will communities respond by asking schools to engage in serious learning and dispense with this sort of learner engagement? Our guests on this show represent different perspectives in the business of gaming in education. Come join us at the Table and find ways that you can integrate game strategy into your products, instructional strategies, and marketing.

    Guests at the table:

Lee Wilson, CEO at Filament Games

Dr. Jodi Asbell-Clarke, Director of EdGe at TERC

Mat Frenz, Producer and Business Development Lead at GlassLab Games

    Early Childhood Financial Education

    in Finance

Annually celebrated on April 21, it is National Kindergarten Day.  This day honors Friedrich Froebel, who was born on April 21, 1782 and started the very first Kindergarten in Germany in 1837.

Friedrich Wilhelm August Froebel was a German teacher who laid the foundation for modern education based on the recognition that children have unique needs and capabilities. He created the concept of the “kindergarten” and coined the word “kindergarten” now used in German and English. His goal was that children should be taken care of and nourished in “children’s gardens” like plants in an orchard. He also developed the educational toys known as Froebel Gifts that included geometric building blocks and pattern activity blocks.

As building blocks in life, financial literacy and education is important at an early age, as young as four and five. Why? Because good habits built early last a lifetime. And today we will discuss this early education development.

Your Money Your Matters focuses on how to achieve greater financial security. We discuss everything from debt management to life experiences. We explore what tools are available to help consumers better manage their personal finances, and we answer your personal questions.

Your Money. Your Matters is a weekly show broadcasting every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon Central Time, featuring radio personalities Rick Grady, Cornerstone Credit Union League; and Jenny Stewart, Consumer Credit Counseling Services.

Each month, we discuss financial issues that are most importance to consumers. Tune in; share your thoughts; and gain helpful advice

http://www.pbs.org/program/inside-court-henry-viii/ - Inside the Court of Henry VIII – “… Henry VIII is the most iconic king of English history. Part medieval tyrant, part renaissance prince, he ruled over his people as no king of England had ever done before. He took a country salvaged by his father from the wreck of civil war and set over it a single, sovereign ruler. By the end of his reign the power of the Tudor dynasty was absolute — but at a terrible cost. Personally responsible for the death of two of his own wives, along with many of his closest friends and advisors, he is said to have ordered the execution of up to 72,000 Britons. His reign will go down as one of the bloodiest in history…”
