Steps of Doe, Crimson Calamity: two bands, four women, much fun.

    in Music

Steps of Doe is the rootsy, LA-based Americana duo of Keena Batti and Molly Falck, who lead a full band replete with lush harmonies and electrified banjo, dulcimer and mandolin. Their music has a sense of humor while it echoes iconic 70’s-style artists like Led Zepplin and Fleetwood Mac, as well as current artists Sufjan Stevens and Elliot Smith. Their debut album,“On Returning” is due out March 24, 2014 on iTunes and the CD will be released at the Hotel Cafe on March 8..

Alternative Country duo Crimson Calamity,  Lauren Harding and past Music FridayLive! guest Mallory Trunnell are no strangers to intricate songwriting and the bright lights of the stage on their own, but together, they deliver firecracker lyrics and glistening harmonies.Crimson Calamity was born from an initial songwriting experiment that turned out the hard hitting single, “Line ‘em Up and Shoot ‘em Down.” which became the catalyst that inspired them to take their collaborative style to the next level.  Their debut EP, “All in the Cards” is built on  country-rock with a little blues for color.

power of perception with Country star Amanda Jo

    in Spirituality

Passionate, heartfelt, soulful, and real. Amanda Jo's music will touch your heart,
inspire you, make you laugh, and will leave you wanting more.
Amanda Jo is a naturally-born country music singer and songwriter. Her performing
career began at the age of two, when she would stand on top of picnic tables and
perform to anyone who would listen.
At the age of six, she performed for the first time on stage at a county fair in
Minnesota. By age eight she was performing at large venues including The
    Minnesota Timberwolves.
She then began training in musical theatre and classical. At age 11, she had a rare
opportunity to sing with The Minnesota Opera Company in the popular opera, La
Boheme. During her younger years Amanda Jo also participated in her local theatre,
where she played roles such as Sleeping Beauty. !
At fourteen, Amanda Jo added a new style of music. She began writing and singing
country music in addition to learning to play the guitar. Later that year, she
travelled to Nashville and recorded a three song EP. This was Amanda Jo’s first taste
of the recording studio, and it ignited her passion for music even more. !
Amanda Jo moved to Las Vegas, Nevada at fifteen where she graduated from The
Las Vegas Academy for International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts. Armed
with her training and 15 years of experience, she began booking gigs as well as
    writing and recording. !
Her passion for the heart and soul of country music continued to grow. In late
2012, Amanda Jo followed her dream to Nashville, TN. She performs all over Music
City. You can hear her regularly playing down on the famous Lower Broadway in the
    heart of the city. !
Amanda Jo released her first full length album, Worth A Memory, on June 23, 2014
featuring twelve songs that were written from her heart and sung with soul. She

Kiler Davenport Live: Interview with Sean Patrick McGraw

    in Country Music

Call it Irish grit. “If you grew up where I grew up,” McGraw recalls, “you were automatically hyphenated either Irish, Polish, or Italian, and your dad worked in the mill, that was a given.” Hailing from a small steel industry town about 50 miles outside of Buffalo, New York, McGraw was raised on Hee-Haw (“We loved Conway Twitty, or at least his haircut”) and rough games of hockey and football. Small for his age and showing little athletic promise, he gravitated towards music, and good thing: “If I’d have stuck with the sports I liked any longer I might have ended up getting my head taken off. We never wore pads, let alone helmets.” Instead, McGraw grew out his hair, picked up a cheap Japanese guitar, and at 13 started a rock band with friends, playing in bars a couple of nights a week—with a note from his mother in hand, in case the cops asked any questions.

As soon as he finished high school, McGraw hightailed it to Los Angeles with rock star dreams and a country sensibility. Wearing out records by Dwight Yoakam and Steve Earle, and “digging through stacks of junk at the Pasadena flea market looking for old Buck Owens and Johnny Cash on vinyl,” he developed his own unique hard-core hillbilly sound.

It’s a crazy life, and McGraw looks upon it with bemused satisfaction in “My So Called Life,” reflecting, “Some days I own this town, other days it shoots me down/Always I’m still hanging round, holdin’ on to hope.” Expertly depicting the driving pace of his “Honky Tonk Life,” McGraw stubbornly continues to hope: “I could quit all this road stuff, go back to my real job, put in a straight 9 to 5/But I love the neon, I love the people, and I love the Honky Tonk Life.”
