KOKO JONES, FORMER PERCUSSIONIST TO WHITNEY HOUSTON, STEPS OUT FRONT ON ALBUM

    in Hip Hop Music

Koko Jones has a story to tell.  On Who's That Lady, her new album dropping from Motema Music on November 18, the percussionist reveals her  hidden abilities as a lyricist and songwriter.  While building on the artistic excellence and percussive brilliance of her previous world-jazz releases, Tenth World and Tenth World Live,  Who's that Lady delves deeply into the 1970s and 80s soul and R&B crucible which first formed the percussionist/producer's prodigious musical vision, and at the same time renders  a timeless musical narrative of this extraordinary woman's past, present and future.

A musician first and foremost, Koko - who was previously known as 'Bujo' Kevin Jones - is a transgender woman of color. That identity, as integral to her being as is her musical talent, has propelled her to a parallel role as an activist and a voice in the trans community.  In addition to Koko's ground-breaking work as an interventionist at the Center for HIV Education Studies and Training (CHEST) at Hunter College, where she is a part of T-Talk, a project delivered by trans women for trans women that seeks to reduce sexual health risk, substance use, and internalized stigma affecting the community, she frequently speaks at events, and recently gave a TEDx talk at Seton Hall University and delivered a lecture on Current Issues in the Trans Community at Columbia University Teachers College.  She is also an active member of Trans Women of Color Collective (TWOCC).

The November release of Who's That Lady happens to coincide with the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20.

    PMP: Chronilus - Threshold album

    in Spirituality

Chronilus has returned! They are crowdfunding their album, Threshold. So RevKess and Kalisara get to ask all the questions about what they've been doing and, more importantly, where we can see and hear their music!

Chronilus is a new Celtic and World Fusion band from the Seattle area. Their enchanting vocal harmonies float over a musical landscape created by a combination of historical, traditional, and modern instrumentation, from all around the world. Here the clairseach, the brass-strung harp that entertained medieval Irish nobility, may play with harmonies from an electric guitar influenced by progressive rock. Funky electric bass may provide a solid foundation alongside the driving rhythms of the West African djembe. With a range of expression from raw, primal energy to ethereal finery, Chronilus' songs explore such subjects as connection, history, fantasy, and ageless spirituality.

AUDIO TECHNICAL NOTE: Bone Deep, Sonia, Manfred and Caera were dialed in on one line, so there may be some slight audio distortion.

    ALL Hallows Album Release Show

    in Poetry

This show commorates a compilation of some of th darker pieces I have done either as a solo artist or as collaborations with others. I decided that the album release date would be on ALL Hallows Eve, the night before ALL Saint's or ALL Souls Day, the Night of the Dead when the ancestral spirits communicate with the living and come out to play... and hence the title is not your stereotypical Halloween album for it is not motivated nor inspired by the commercial idea of the holiday.

I call this genre Erotic Horror simply because it is similar to what I ALL so call Esoteric Poetry. It is mix of sexuality and spirituality that is very prevelant in many of my scribes. some of its ideas and views may be interpreted as being influenced by alternative ideas. However, many of the rites of the dead are very connected to sexuality, such as the Resurection Mythos of Ancient Egypt, the Tantric Rites of Ancient Indus Kush (modern day India) and such.

Appearing on this album with me (Pantherion Prime) are StarChild Kimela Ezechukwu, Puss'n Boots, and Petal Fatale.

We are Twin: XTRA LOVE released. Willodean debut album

    in Music

WE ARE TWIN.. Germany-raised Sri Lankan multi-instrumentalist and producer Nicholas Balachandran met New York-born and bred singer songwriter Gabi Christine during a 2009 songwriting session and the result was fifteen songs and WE ARE TWIN. In 2013 Zackary Smith (Bass, Keys, vocals) & Justin Frazier (drums) joint the group. The group just finished their debut album called "xtra love" release this November,  blazing a trail for a punk rock, soul & Pop aesthetic that stood out  immediately.  And they have a musical webisode series. We will talk about all of it this Friday.

LA-based three-man band, Willodean, chronicles longing, loneliness, and lost loves, Willodean is Dan Barrett,  Eric Holden and Randy Wooten. They have just released their self-titled debut album about people as afraid of finding love as losing it. With Dan Barrett’s gravelly baritone, Eric Holden’s upright bass that resonates with sturdy, near-ancient melodies and  guitarist/pianist Randy Wooten’s lyrics the evoke a dreamy world of misgiving and missed chances. We won't miss  the cahnce to ask them about  it  this Friday.
