#MyRealTalkRadio #WrapItUp HIV/AIDS AWARENESS Special!
There are approximately 1.1 million people living with HIV in the U.S.
It is estimated that almost one-fifth (18.1 %) of those people don’t know they are infected.
Since the beginning of the AIDS pandemic, 1.7 million Americans have been infected with HIV and more than 650,000 have died of AIDS.
An estimated 50,000 new HIV infections occur in the U.S. each year.
In 2011, more than 20% of people diagnosed with HIV in the U.S. were women.
The vast majority of newly diagnosed HIV-positive women contracted the virus through heterosexual sex.
In 2010, gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) accounted for 78% of new HIV infections among men and 63% of all new infections although they comprise only 4% of the U.S. male population.
African Americans accounted for 47% of new HIV infections diagnosed in 2011, although they comprise only 14% of the population.
The rate of new HIV infections among black women in 2010 was 20 times that of white women and nearly five times that of Hispanic women.
In 2010, 31% of all new infections occurred among people aged 25–34, followed by individuals aged 13–24 at 26%.

Just as the entertainment industry often recognizes ensemble casts, plays, and movies that are, collectively, greater than the sum of any individual performance, Desert AIDS Project honored a few remarkable films - and some fabulous individuals - at the February 8th, 2014, 20th Annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, including And the Band Played On, Boys on the Side, Philadelphia, andd How to Survive a Plague.
Veteran Entertainment Reporter and Actor Nicholas Snow, himself a Desert AIDS Project client, and guest co-host Kristin Johnson, bring you the the most comprehensive coverage of the event available online.

The Ebola crisis is the conversation we are having tonight.
How serious are people about the current news and fears surrounding the treatent of patients, and the lack of medicines when it commes to interacting socially today? Is it enough to question or srcutinize the person you are with when it comes to 'exchanging' body fluids?
Will the current crisis cause a 'relaxed mentality' when it comes to AIDS? Considering that initial contact alone could be deadly with Ebola... What are YOUR thoughts?
Let's get LIVE!!!! After Dark!

Although National Women and GIrls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day was last month, March 10, 2014, it's never too late to talk about HIV/AIDS Awareness. I have the privledge to talk to this beautiful soul, Kecia Johnson, who is a 8 year AIDS survivor. She has been using her life experience as a platform and testimony that you can live a vibrant, normal life despite the stigma of living with full blown AIDS. Being diagnosed 8 years ago at the age of 22, she has become the new face of AIDS. Aside from being an activist, she is also an artist manager and an author! She just released a book entitled "Dying To Be D.I.V.A" meaning Doing It Vivaciously Alone, with another new book available next month. She has been embraced in the music industry because of her positive spirit and choosing to live her life to the fullest and not in secret. She is choosing to educate young girls and young women worldwide. Doing countless interviews, motivational speakings, appearances and the list goes on and on. I'm going to catch up with this fabulous women to hear her full story and see what she has going on now! This should be a story you won't want to miss! If you would like to call in to share a comment or ask a question, the number is (347) 855-8637.

Nicholas Snow is a journalist, author, actor, radio and television host, singer/songwriter, LGBT civil rights activist, and a world-renowned, openly-gay, openly-HIV positive advocate for HIV testing and safer sex.
Nicholas Snow makes every day World AIDS Day (December 1st) by promoting HIV testing and safer sex as one of the world's leading multimedia entertainment activists.
This is told in his riveting, new, written-as-he-lived it, well-reviewed, living-powerfully-with-HIV memoir, Life Positive: A Journey to the Center of My Heart. (http://www.LifePositiveBook.com).
Because February 7th, is the National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, the show of this week will address the Intersection of HIV/AIDS, Violence against Women and Girls, & Gender–Related Health Disparities.
Data support the need to address not only HIV/AIDS and IPV, but also their intersection:
- Most women living with HIV had experienced IPV
- Among women living with HIV/AIDS, trauma, abuse and violence are associated with less use of antiretroviral medication, decreased medication adherence, and increased risk of death
- HIV infection may trigger or augment physical violence, particularly against women
