He served as the Organizing Director of the AFL-CIO from 2001-2008. He worked as Chief of Staff of the Utility Workers Union of America until May, 2012.
Acuff makes regular media appearances on Your World with Neil Cavuto on Fox News. He is also a regular on The Thom Hartmann Show, Charles Showalter’s The Union Edge radio show, and many others.
Stewart has written two books, Playing Bigger Than You Are: A Life in Organizing and Getting America Back to Work, which was coauthored by Dr. Richard Levins.

Activist DAVID R. NEWBY from Wisconsin has been a working for economic justice and social justice since the civil rights and anti-war movement in the 1960s & 1970s and is still very active
David is President Emeritus of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO so he has a unique perspective on what is happening inside and outside the labor union's stance on workers' rights as Governor Walker leads an assault on hard earned benefits.
Mr. Newby traveled to D.C. last weekend to attend a strategizing meeting for making available Single Payer Health Care.
David has been especially involved in working for health care reform in order to ensure all people have access to high quality and affordable health care. He is one of the founders and now on the Steering Committee of the Labor Campaign for Single Payer Health Care.
David was a teacher before working full time for the labor movement. In 1981 he initiated the teaching of labor history in schools and successfully worked for the passage of 2009 legislation which requires the teaching of the history of organized labor and the collective bargaining process.
He is also a leader of the U.S. Labor Against War working to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan so the resources can be shifted to the domestic needs in the USA.
Mr. Newby is a recognized national leader in political action and member mobilization, innovative workforce training and economic development, legislative initiative on behalf of working families and aggressive representation of the interests of all working people.
David has led legislative campaigns for Family and Medical Leave, improved health and safety in the workplace, plant closing notification, expanded access to health care, and increases in the Minimum Wage.
