Handling unpleasant emotional reactions during the holidays

    in Self Help

With holidays coming up in a few weeks, this can be a time of stress for many people. Sometimes we are required to spend time with difficult family members. For some, the holidays represent excessive alone time filled with loneliness, sadness and perhaps depression. The holidays can, also, be prime time to engage in our most comfortable coping behaviors: overeating and drinking, overspending, engaging in family drama, indulging in self-defeating, negative thinking patterns, avoiding gatherings and isolating ourselves.

Guest Julie M. Simon, licensed psychotherapist, life coach and author of The Emotional Eater’s Repair Manual: A Practical Mind-Body-Spirit Guide for Putting an End to Overeating and Dieting, helps overeaters and imbalanced eaters heal their relationships with themselves, their bodies and food, stop dieting, lose excess weight and keep it off. Julie can be reached at www.overeatingrecovery.com.

Living with Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries

    in Health

The most common cyanotic congenital heart defect that presents in the first month after birth is transposition of the great arteries (TGA). There are two major forms of TGA -- dextro-TGA (d-TGA) and levo-TGA (l-TGA) or congenitally corrected TGA (also known as cc-TGA). Because cc-TGA is rarer than d-TGA, it's not often spoken about. On this show we'll have two adult survivors of cc-TGA talk about what it's like living with cc-TGA, how it's affected their lives and what advice they have for parents of cc-TGA and for adult survivors of cc-TGA.
