In the age of social networking, information is shared an spread within minutes. The internet and it's plethora of social networking sites is a very useful tool. Many utilize it as an extension to the work they are already doing, while others utilize it as their only voice for various reasons.
Within the "social justice" community online there has grown an arrogance, a need to call out others for what they are or are not doing. People who are not of one experience or attacking others who are, for not being "involved enough." People who've gained a few degrees or taken some college courses, look down upon those that are self taught.

Mitchell’s guest today is colleague and long-time friend of Mitchell’s and A Better World, prolific author, internationally-renowned teacher and speaker, Andrew Harvey.
Andrew is Founder/Director of the Institute of Sacred Activism, an international organization focused on inviting concerned people to take up the challenge of our contemporary global crises by becoming inspired, effective, and practical agents of institutional and systemic change, in order to create peace and sustainability. Sacred Activism is a transforming force of compassion-in-action that is born of a fusion of deep spiritual knowledge, courage, love, and passion, with wise radical action in the world. The large-scale practice of Sacred Activism can become an essential force for preserving and healing the planet and its inhabitants.

ENVISION THIS: The one hope for the future lies in Sacred Activism – the fusion of the deepest spiritual knowledge and passion with clear, wise, radical action in all the arenas of the world, inner and outer.
We are honored to host Andrew Harvey, famous primarily for his popular nonfiction books on spiritual or mystical themes. He is also a religious scholar and teacher of mystic traditions. He is the founder of the Institute for Sacred Activism and was the subject of a BBC documentary "The Making of a Modern Mystic." He has been active with The Shift Network, presenting Rediscovering the Christ Path: How to Embody Sacred Love in Action. He is one of the most convincing advocates for reviving reverence for the Feminine Divine that we have heard.
Andrew’s message is heartfelt and urgent: “Let all of us who see the seriousness of our contemporary situation, and also the extraordinary possibilities of a new order join together as Sacred Activists to do all we can with all we are and have to transform the crisis and the world…When the deepest and most grounded spiritual vision is married to a practical and pragmatic drive to transform all existing political, economic, and social institutions, a holy force – the power of wisdom and love in action – is born. This force I define as Sacred Activism.”
Your hosts, Burl and Merry Hall, are engaged in Sacred Activism and hope you, too, will be inspired by Andrew Harvey to embody sacred love in action.

The Rev. Dr. Sid Gates is an ordained Presbyterian (USA) minister and licensed marriage and family therapist (partner) in a private psychotherapy practice in Augusta, GA. He was conferred degrees from the University of Georgia (B.A.), Valdosta State University (M.S.), and Union Presbyterian Seminary (D.Min.). Dr. Gates provides individual, couples, family therapy, and pastoral counseling; he has recognized expertise in providing therapy for grief, reconciliation, and theopathogical concerns.
He has been a three-time presenter for the annual national conference for the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy; his presentation on brief, solution-focused grief therapy was selected part of the “Best Of” series. Dr. Gates has renown as a community and regional presenter/organizer interfacing issues of spirituality and the behavioral sciences. His “spiritual activism” has morphed into community-and-beyond education targeting issues of the “common good.” He is a cofounder of the Progressive Religious Coalition of Augusta and a framer for the Coalition for Mental and Spiritual Health Ministries and its “interfaith” application. Dr. Gates is the current Chaplain for the Richmond County (Augusta) Democratic Party. His wife of twenty-five years is a Registered Nurse and he has a daughter who is in nursing school.
Did you know that most activism is brought about by ordinary people? Rosa Parks, at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement, was an ordinary person. Edmund Burke said it best - "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing". I would include good women as well. Burke also said that "no one could make a greater mistake than he (I add she) could make a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little."
Now, more than ever, the world needs good people to rise together to protest the injustices of gender discrimination, racial discrimination, discrimination against gays and lesbians, and other forms of discrimination.
If you have something you believe in strongly, if you have some cause that you want to support, become an activist and lend your voice to changing the world, one person and one positive action at a time.
