Elder Abuse and Neglect is one of the most under reported crimes today. For a whole variety of reasons these crimes including financial exploitation, are not reported and when they are, the investigation and prosecution efforts are lacking in many places. This is due largely to a lack of understanding of the basic dynamics of elder abuse and the lack of training by authorities. The types of abuses range from physical abuse to gross neglect and is usually by a family member or caregiver. The repoprting of abuse in care facilities is often not reported, again for a variety of reasons.
