Most of us want to be able to know where they stand with people. When you're dealing with someone that refuses to take sides, it can work on your sense of loyalty in a bad way. When you find out that they can't really be trusted, you have to decide how you will deal with them. It's probably better to separate yourself from them altogether but if you're nosey, you probably will continue to let them hang around you.
