One of the nicest things about what I do is that I get to meet and interview so many inspiring entrepreneurs.  Last year I met Clyde Scott Jr., an urban clothing designer based here in my home city of San Diego.  Below is my interview with him...

Maria: Who or what inspired you to start your business?

Clyde:  My friends are the ones who inspired me to start up my business.  They always encouraged me and told me that I had a lot of talent and I would make it someday. My friends are my backbone; they are always there for me and I'm grateful to have those kind of people around me. That' why C-xpressions is what it is today.  It's a different look at art and sight to new and refreshing images. As a little kid I had a vision and I could sketch ever since the day I could walk.

Maria:  How are you marketing or promoting your business?

Clyde:  I'm starting to promote my business on www.myspace.com/cjanimation. It's a wonderful way to advertise. Also, I have my t-shirts in urban stores in downtown San Diego. One of the stores that I have my t shirts in is called Armory Gear Shop located off of F Street . I'm also making a ordering website which you can order from, so look out for that. I also have a calender called Lost Boyz which is also coming out this year so also look out for that.

Maria:  What obstacles or challenges have you faced in starting your business and how did you overcome them?

I have faced many obstacles in life regarding my t shirts as far as are they going to sell in big stores or are they going to be looked at as not a seller. I have a lot of challenges going to stores and seeing if this is going to sell or not sell. That's the business of t shirts and advertising. I noticed that through the years of my progress. 

So what I basically try to do is stay afloat and keep pushing my way through barriers.  I manage to accomplish what I mean to do. To this day I'm more motivated and focused to make sure that I go through everything trying.  You never going to not know if you don't try. I was taught to never quit and always try your best.

Maria: Tell us about your creative process. How do you come up with your designs?

Clyde:  My creative process runs in different ways. I'm an artist at heart. It's my passion and my first priority minus the daily venues that I go through. I came up with this logo by just sketching and whatever that sticks out is mostly what I put on t shirts. This particular character managed to come out to my imagination and stayed there. I always wanted a character to be my logo. The logo is very unique and different to me. That's why I also picked that type of character.

Maria:  Where can we find your clothing?

Clyde:  You can find my t-shirts and jackets in Armory t-shirts and my website now. This store is located in downtown San Diego off of F street.  Also, check out the t-shirts you can also log on to my site www.myspace.com/cjanimation. C-xpressions is globally finding it's way into San Diego.

Maria:  What tips do you have for fellow entrepreneurs or for those aspiring to start their own business?

Clyde:  I want to tell entrepreneurs that if you want to really achieve your goals, you have to stay focused and never quit. You have to be your own man or woman and decide what's most important to you. If I can achieve, then so can you. I started off educating and listening to what people have to say and then I started off making my way. C-xpressions clothing is for that certain individual who wants to express themselves and start a movement. You have to have passion about what you do and make a good impression.

Maria:  What motivates you?

Clyde:  My parents are my motivation and my friends are the ones who gave me the will and dedication to make this all happen. I'm motivated in so many ways.  I find inspiration from many artist and fashions designers who are already out there.
