Strait Talk

Will a huge disaster wipe out all humanity in 2012. The ultimate catastrophe. One man who believes that we shall very shortly see the full horrors of a polar reversal, and a disaster that will make even the South East Asian catastrophe insignificant by comparison is author Patrick Geryl. In a feature written specially for this site, he tells of the nightmare vision that he believes will befall this planet in 2012, when by his estimate billions may die. denisstraittalk@hotmail.com DentheMen

Show Notes

Significant recent events In December 2004 South East Asia was shook up with a category 9 earthquake, causing and immense catastrophe for the region near the island of Sumatra. Several scientists agree that Earth was very close to the next polar reversal. And what may be even more frightening is that it simply could have been a warm-up exercise announcing the actual event coming up in the near future. This places the theories of it happening in 2012 in the hotspot again. Whether this is correct or not, it isn't the best news when you consider that the world became hopelessly unbalanced and that it wouldn't require much force to turn it over. From ancient records we've learned that this has happened many times before. Are we just imagining this fact or is it true, are we really going to die or should we get prepared for one of the most frightening events, Whither or not I think that we should not take any chances lets prepare our self for the worst and if nothing happen good, But lets look at what can we do in case it comes. What do you think of the $115,00 in welfare fraud? Mon, April 6, 2009 A Barrie man has been ordered to pay back the Ontario government $115,000 -- the same amount his common-law wife duped the welfare system out of over 10 years. "I was just trying to eat, your honour," said Joseph Syvert, 44, as his common-law wife, Shirley Moss, 52, sat near him at the front of the court. Court heard Moss received welfare cheques because of mental and health issues for the past 10 years and never reported that the entire time she lived with Syvert, who has a full-time job in Scarborough where he earns $18 an hour. Together they rent the main floor of a house for $1,000 a month. Court heard on four occasions, Syvert gave Moss a "false" letter to give to welfare authorities stating she was the landlord and Moss paid him rent. welfare Fraud in Ontario Canada

BARRIE -- A Barrie man has been ordered to pay back the Ontario government $115,000 -- the same amount his common-law wife duped the welfare system out of over 10 years.

    'CRIME OF GREED'

"This was a crime of greed," said Crown attorney Lynn Shirreffs.

In her sentencing Friday, Justice Michelle Fuerst agreed.

"I'm not convinced this was done out of need or poverty," she said. "This kind of fraud is not a victimless crime. It deprives those who are truly in need of financial assistance ... especially in these economic tough times."

The judge sentenced Syvert to a 12-month conditional sentence of house arrest, where he must remain at home except to go to work and medical appointments. She also made a free-standing restitution order for Syvert to pay the Ministry of Community and Social Services $115,000.

Moss pleaded guilty as well, but the judge would not accept her plea because she told her probation officer that she didn't know she was committing a fraud. The judge ordered her to have a further consultation with her lawyer and set a new court date for April 20.

    Drunk Drivers

Drunk drivers why is it that after multiple arrest and conviction some people can steal drive there car.We know that every day 4 Canadians are killed and 207 are injured as a result of impaired driving crashes. Thousands of Canadians are personally affected each year by impaired driving, When is it going to stop.

Everyday drivers are arrested for driving under the influence, or driving while intoxicated, as law enforcement agencies continue to crackdown on these dangerous offenders. For many of these drivers, it will not be their first DUI offense.

So, what fate awaits these drunk drivers? They may be surprised to find that penalties for DUI, even the first offense, have been increased since they last checked. Due to the efforts of groups like Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD), hundreds of new DUI laws have been passed nationwide since 1980.

All states have adopted 21 as the legal drinking age. Two-thirds of the states have now passed Administrative License Revocation (ALR) laws, which allow the arresting officer to take the license of drivers who fail or refuse to take a breath test.

All states have now lowered the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit from .10 to .08 percent for adults, and all states have passed Zero Tolerance laws which prohibit drivers under 21 from having any measurable amount of alcohol in their blood system.

Moreover, the penalties have increased for drinking and driving, especially for repeat offenders. Many state legislatures have passed laws requiring mandatory jail time for repeat DUI convictions. The fines have gotten larger, the length of license suspension has gotten longer and getting a "hardship" license just to go back and forth to work is getting more difficult.
