Join hosts Teal Gray, Bambi Harris & Tui Snider as we interview author Harry Hall: During Harry Hall's 25-year writing career, he has written for the Dallas Morning News, been an award-winning radio talk show host, and taught public speaking. His background as a distance runner (he's completed two Boston Marathons) inspired him to write The Pedestriennes, America's Forgotten Superstars, which was honored at the 2012 Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference. It tells the story of the female endurance walkers whose on and off the track exploits captivated the nation from 1876-1881. In 2015, The Pedestriennes won a bronze medal in the Independent Publishers (IPPY) Awards, an Honorable Mention in the Writer's Digest Writing Contest, and more! Harry lives in north Texas with his wife Susie, their son Zane, and Zane's new best friend, Scamp (Pooch) Hall. Who were the Pedestriennes? In the 1870s, Americans went crazy for endurance walking. All over the country, fans packed reconfigured theatres and opera houses, paying to watch their favorite athletes walk on undersized tracks for days, or even weeks. Successful walkers would take home small fortunes. The elite performers earned even more by making personal appearances at county fairs and touring with theatrical companies.
