A fantasy about Dallas, Guns, Murder, Race, and the end of Civility and Reason

The characters in my story will include a white policeman who shoots a black man who has been pulled over for a broken tail light in a place called Minnesota. It also speaks of a crowd in Dallas protesting the shooting of the man in Minnesota comprised of black and white people, some of whom are citizens and others of whom are policemen. A central character in my fantasy is an ex-soldier who is black who open fire on the crowd wounding two civilians and killing five policeman and wounding six others. Like many others I find it easy to judge the behavior of my characters but very difficult to understand their behavior in these events. What stories do they all live by? What fantasies do they have about guns, especially the military style weapon the soldier used to kill the officers? How does it feel to be a policeman and approach someone in a stopped car, be they male, female, black or white? What story motivated the soldier who did all the killing? What was his fantasy about race, guns, being a soldier? I will try hard not to judge any of my characters but rather try and explain the stories they live by, those stores and fantasies they can verbalized and those they can or will not
